Trends in Fashion Accessories
Fashion accessories are typically the easiest and cheapest way to update an otherwise outdated outfit. For the broke high-schoolers and twenty somethings, accessories are sometimes the only fashion items that are affordable. Tried and true, incorporating seasonal accessories make enough of a different to take on outfit from bad to good. Follow our posts on the latest accessories trends here!

Review: Fit To Flick Hat
0My Fit To Flick hat arrived just in time for the nasty, wet weather in the Bay Area. I got the Charlotte ponytail hat in swope brown – and yes, Fit To Flick is a line of beanies and hair scarves with holes in them for ponytails and buns.
I’m not going to lie, at first, the idea of a knit hat with a ponytail hole seemed a little cheesball, and not exactly my style. Besides, I’ve already mastered how to wear my hair with beanies on. I love wearing low side swept ponies, buns and updos that fall perfectly below where beanies end, at the base of my hairline, so traditional ponytail hole-less hats have worked perfectly for me.
Fit to Flick hats have been dubbed as “the most fashion forward line of ponytail hats.” That said, I was pleased to take my new hat out of its box and find the hand-knit design, color, and especially the hole were classy, and well “fashion forward”.
I gave the hat a try for dinner last Saturday. Here are a couple of photos of my hair in the hat before Tyler and I went to A La Turca for a casual dinner (where I was able to leave my hat on the whole time).
I also wore the hat around the apartment on Sunday while watching the 49ers vs Giants game. Tyler and his little brother, Dallas, both thought the concept of a ponytail hat was awesome, and that it looked really nice. Dallas even thinks, “the hot chicks should wear these hats on the ski slopes so their hair still looks good.” He’s always thinking (Bay Area girls: Dallas is single, and ready to mingle)!!!
I must admit it’s pretty neat to be able to wear higher updos while wearing a hat. If you’re the type of person who doesn’t like wearing low ponytails, this Fit To Flick hats are definitely for you. They come in a variety of colors. Check out the full assortment on Fit To Flick, there is a collection for kids too!
Review: Ecote Leather Boot
2My Urban Outfitters package arrived last night. In it was a couple of gifts, which I won’t mention since recipients might be reading this post, AND Ecote boots for me! It’s been a cold December. I’ve needed socks and shoes everyday, wearing my limited assortment of boots and booties. I work a little over a mile walk from home (round trip), so I prefer to wear styles that are flat or have a low 1-2″ heel max. For he past month I’ve been on a serious hunt for cute, simple, and classy boots, none of that trendy junk. I’ve been frequenting ideeli, Ruelala, Hautelook, Zappos, Piperlime and Urban Outfitters hoping to find the perfect pair for new kicks.
If you know me well, you probably know I don’t buy anything at regular price. Lucky for me, most stores (aside from Piperlime) have a great sale shoe assortment, so I feel like I’m still able to find current styles at the right prices (note, current styles and trendy styles are not the same thing).
Back to the Urban Outfitters package; in it was a pair of Ecote Leather Crisscross Lace-Up Boots in light brown.
I put them on, and they fit perfectly. My only complaint is that the top of the boot is a bit stiff and isn’t the most comfortable thing to have bumping up to your ankle with every step. I’ve worn them for a full day now and it seems like the stiffness is working itself out – that, or I’m getting used to the feeling!
I would strongly encourage anyone looking for bootie flats in black or light brown to pick these up. Hurry, they are on sale for $40, so they’ll be sold out before you know it!
Gloves I Love
1Dried out, pruney looking hands that are cracked and peeling during the winter months are not exactly what I would call attractive. I wouldn’t even call it sanitary. Aside from a good bottle of lotion and the occasional paraffin wax treatment, you’re going to need a good pair of gloves or mittens to keep those hands looking smooth this season, and with the arrival of the holidays, gloves and mittens are my favorite inexpensive gift for everyone on my list.
Owning a winter coat for all occasions is not generally in everyone’s budget, so one of the easiest ways to spruce up your winter coat ensemble is to invest in chic handwear. And if you’re thinking that the words “mittens” and “chic” don’t even belong in the same sentence together, then you need to give mittens a second chance. But let me warn you now that some mittens come in size behemoth, and not everyone likes that style. Perhaps it’s because I grew up in Chicago, where the winters leave your hands looking as if you rinse your hands with a generous amount of bleach, but huge, bulky mittens don’t bother me one bit (especially considering the alternative).
Seeing that my favorite season is winter, I know that I’m one of only a few who gets excited when it comes time to pull out my winter coat and boots, but with a few creative additions to your winter accessories, you could learn to love winter, too. OK maybe not love winter, but at least tolerate it long enough until spring arrives.

Snapshot Jewelry by Yael + Tal
0Israel design studio Yael + Tal has created a new jewelry collection called “Snapshot” featuring miniature figures resting or leaning on benches or swings. “Snapshot means a photograph that is taken in a short moment of opportunity; it freezes the moment which usually refers to daily naive scenes,” Says Yael Serfaty of the design duo. Each piece is seemingly paused in a precise moment in time, the figures confined to a small, framed space. Designers shows us the beauty of the every-day in “snapshot”. Made out from silver or gold highly-detailed jewellery are extremely beautiful and unique. Take a look!
