Elle Denim Report: All buttoned up!

Elle Denim Report, Denim Skirts

ELLE Magazine has just come out with a new Denim Report that focuses solely on the denim skirt. Specifically, a short, casual, buttoned up version for Spring/Summer. In the report Market Editor, Jade Frampton gives us ideas on how to wear this style and what kind of accessories work best with it.

Zara’s full spring/summer 2010 lookbook has been published. Here are some of the strongest pieces they will have for the season. There colorway is appropriately light for the Spring, in my opinion there might be too much white offered int he collection. Overall though, the cuts, finishes and sizes appear as though they should be flattering on all sorts of body types.

Japan’s Neighborhood channels the styles of The Clash (the band) for their Spring/Summer 2010 Collection. Titled, The Magnificent Seven, the collection showcases punk inspired pieces that cross the iconic band’s look with American workwear aesthetics. The B&W photo’s really make this collection appear as a new take on the oldies. I personally think the pieces are pretty awesome.

These guys look okay in the Dunhill Fall 2010 collection despite their clean yet angry look, oversized jackets and flood pants. What excites me most about this collection is the accessories. I love the brief cases, man purses, backpacks and flasks. It seems like flasks are all the rage right now, every retailer appears to be releasing their own rendition of the trendy flask.

Narciso Rodriguez can drape and fit like nobody’s business. For Fall he focused on asymmetry and mixed media, showing powdery silks, textural shearling, angora, sheeny neoprene, and flannel. There was a softness to the peekaboo looks, with draped silk softly revealing the sides of models’ bodies.

“I was in Palm Beach over the holidays, and everyone was wearing leather and studs,” Amy Smilovic the designer of Tibi explained backstage. “And if the look has made it there, you know it’s time to do something new.”

Tibi’s Fall 2010 collection focuses on the concept of balanced opposites. Similar to other Fall 2010 collection there was a lot of mixed fabrics and finishes including velvet, fur, sequins and silk. Drapey bow ties, skirts and pants are a huge theme for the collection. There were even a few of Tibi’s popular printed dresses layered into the collection.

Some writers, like Tania Braukamper of Fashionising.com believe that Alexander Wang 2010 Collection resembles outfits that might be found in our future workplace. I hope she is wrong about the midriff bearing tops, I think even girls with the flattest abs should refrain from showing them at work…its tacky. The look is heavy and bleak with very minimal use of color, which is perfect for Fall. The layering shown in this collection was at times intense, however id there is one huge underlining trend for Fall 2010 it is over-layering..so he fits the bill. Overall I thought the collection was well presented. There aren’t any stand out pieces that I’m interested to see on the streets though.

Bensoni’s Autumn/Winter 2010 collection feels like an average day in the Cotswolds. There is the boyfriend shirt dress, flower print ruffle gown, plaid jackets with fur, and sequin gowns layered into the collection. I think the look is something to get excited about and it clearly is a line I will continue to follow closely.
