Emerson Fry: Line to love
Months ago I came across photos of Emerson Fry’s Fall ’12 collection and fell in love with her classic silhouettes, cozy sweaters and the wear-ability of the entire line.
Yes, it is 2013 but that won’t stop me from lusting after Emerson Fry’s fall ’12 collection. Check out her cold weather pieces – preppy, yet urban – a perfect combination for these chilly days ahead of us.
Beauty trends for the new year
It’s a new year – and fashion has never looked so good! This year, we can expect to see a healthy dose of ladylike pieces mixed with tailored menswear. The overall look will be polished, sophisticated, and vintage-inspired. Which means, hair and makeup trends for Spring 2013 are more refined, yet modernly cool.

Interview with the woman behind le larc
THE FRIEND / old co-worker: Lindsay Regan | THE LINE: le larc
SB: How did you get into fashion design?
LR: I had sort of a circuitous route into fashion design. Even though it was something I’ve always wanted to do, like many high schoolers in America, creative fields of study weren’t necessarily presented as options when I was thinking about college. I ended up studying International Relations in San Diego, which led me to work in sourcing and production for a couple Bay Area apparel manufacturers. After about 5 years in production, I finally gave into the design bug and attended FIDM in San Francisco to study Fashion Design. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
SB: What is your philosophy on fashion?
LR: My philosophy on fashion has always centered on wearing what works for you and your body. The fashion world is constantly reworking and reinventing itself with trends and aesthetic movements. In this atmosphere, I think it’s best to know who you are and what brings out the best and most confident you. Fashion is one of the easiest ways to convey what you’re about to another, and having confidence behind what you’re wearing makes your presence all the more impactful.
SB: What’s your favorite part of designing?
LR: So many parts! But my absolute favorite is the initial sketching and concept work. There’s nothing like completely letting go and seeing what comes out creatively.
SB: Describe the inspiration behind your debut le larc collection.
LR: The inspiration behind my debut collection was to create a line of foundation pieces that could live in every woman’s closet. I wanted to design supremely high quality pieces that had longevity in a field that’s filled with sometimes temporary trends. The silhouettes have a timeless, clean aesthetic that will work when paired with other, more trend-driven items for years to come.
SB: What have you learned so far about being an entrepreneur in the fashion industry?
LR: There’s a surprising amount of support out there for entrepreneurs. People want you to succeed, and that’s been such a cool discovery.
SB: Name on thing about your business that you think no one else does.
LR: Le larc was founded on the idea of timeless fashion and the idea that it’s pieces will last you years to come. Our focus is on impeccable fit and construction, such that the garments feel great when you put them on. Surprisingly, I think that’s hugely rare in apparel these days.
SB: Where can we buy your pieces?
LR: Le larc will be available in two Bay Area stores this February: White Label SF on Union Street in San Francisco, and The Store on Throckmorton in Mill Valley. More stores will be added soon and you can find the most up to date listings at www.lelarc.com/stockists. You can also email [email protected] to buy directly from us.
Happy New Year!
It’s a new year! Lets start 2013 with an updated look and while we’re at it – lets try something a little risky!
What we’re loving for 2013
Bold pointed-toe pumps: look great paired with cuffed skinny jeans and a basic top – classic and simple, but very chic.
Prints on the bottom half: trade your printed top for patterned bottoms for a modern and edgy look.
Collarless coat: perfect with with a cable knit sweater, skinny denim and loafers for a classic/preppy look.
Statement necklace: Go big or go home! Statement necklaces look great paired with a crew neck sweater or a classic button down top – very modern and funky.
Berry colored lipstick: flirty and fun. A great way to add some color to your overall look and looks great on most skin tones.
Cross body bag: lose those oversized satchels and opt for something a little smaller. Cross body bags are urban and will update any look.
Happy 2013! Hope everyone has a fun, safe and stylish NEW YEAR!

Bumble and bumble Straight Blow Dry Review
Many months ago I did a post on Living Proof’s line of styling products, focusing on Frizz styling cream, straight making for medium to thick hair. I kept purchasing and using the product and last month when I ran out I went to Sephora to buy more, then I found out that particular product was discontinued and replaced with styling products that can be used for any type of hair.
When companies make a product that works wonders, that I love and then it is discontinued I feel cheated and decide to look elsewhere. This is how I started using Bumble and bumble Straight Blow Dry, even though I don’t blow dry my hair, I use a styling iron.
This balm helps deliver straight smooth, healthy-looking styles with movement. Its non-greasy, lightweight formula tames flyaways and frizz, protecting hair from heat-styling and humidity. It’s the ideal styling agent for curly, thick, coarse, unmanageable hair.
The first thing I noticed was the smell of the product, it’s a bit masculine, then I noticed the grey colors of the bottle and had to make sure I hadn’t bought a men’s styling product, I did not.
So far I’m not overly impressed with Bb Straight Blow Dry while the straight style lasts a couple of days, I did notice the slight curls I give the tips of my hair don’t last and once they’re gone I couldn’t get them back with my styling iron, plus I still had to fight the flyaways.
It could be that I’m not getting the desired results because I use a styling iron instead of a hair dryer, so in the meantime I’ll try new products and keep you posted.
Home for the Holidays
Whether you’re buying gifts for friends and family, attending Holiday parties, or finalizing your travel plans – the Holidays can be exciting but also a little hectic (and for some reason, this time of year seems to fly by).
If you’re planning on traveling this Holiday season, why not get a bit of head start on your packing (well, at least start brainstorming some wardrobe ideas).
Here are some items that will definitely be making it into my suitcase!
When traveling I like to create outfits ahead of time and be sure that the items I pack in my suitcase can be mixed and matched – that way I know I have multiple outfits and can dress accordingly.
Must haves:
Skinny denim – can be dressed up by pairing with ankle boots and a silk blouse. Or you can go casual with flats and a basic sweater.
Printed skirt – paired with tights, ankle boots and an embellished sweater, this makes a perfect outfit for evening festivities.
Chambray button down – looks great paired with cropped colored trousers and ankle boots. Creates a casual, yet on trend look.
Pointed toe flats – they can be dressed up or dressed down and look great with anything from skinny denim to dresses.
Large sturdy tote – great for carrying all of that extra stuff we tend to lug around with us while traveling!
Travel size perfume – wearing your favorite perfume makes you feel at home and it sure beats wearing the same scent as your mom!
