And it should be, aside from work, the home is where we spend the bulk of our time, and like clothing it needs to be a reflection of us. Pharell William’s Tank Chair

louis-vuitton-party-pharrell

This is Pharell, the voice behind the band N.E.R.D. (No One Ever Really Dies) and the Neptune’s producer (thin Snoop Dog’s ‘Drop it like it’s Hot’). He is beautiful and amazing!

He’s been getting into furniture design, making his second chair titled The Tank Chair.

Book Bust: McQueen’s Machines

mcQueens_machines_book_cover

McQueen’s Machines $26.95 is a look at Hollywood-legend Steve McQueen’s love of motorcycles and cars. McQueen made movies best remembered for their car chases, motorcycle dashes, and hair-raising races. Throughout the years, no one forgets the man at the wheel, Steve McQueen, aka the King of Cool. No other Hollywood star has been so closely linked with cars and bikes. This 176 page book features cars, motorcycles, and even airplanes that McQueen owned over the years. Written by Matt Stone; with foreward from Steve McQueen’s son, Chad McQueen.

If your dad happens to own 2 Harley Davidsons, 1 car, 2 trucks, 1 para-plane, 1 cigarette boat, 1 pontoon, 3 ATVs, and 3 snowmobiles, like my dad, then this book might be a perfect Holiday gift for him! And dad, now that I’ve written down all the toy’s you own (and maybe even missed a few), I understand why living in rural Minnesota works out so well for you!

Mice are going Woodgrain

alestrukov_aury_mouse

As of recent, textured plastic has taken over almost all of our work-based accouterments  No one ever really complained about the abundance of plastic products until recently  Over the last few months, and maybe even during an attempt to look green, the latest craze has been about woodgrain accessories. I first reported on this trend while on my iPhone case binge. But now, I’ve found one of the coolest woodgrains to date…the optical mouse carved entirely out of wood, right down to the USB plug. These woodgrain mice are a product from Russian gadget maker Alest Rukov. The product comes in a few different woodgrain options, that all look fantastic. Of course, you won’t be able to pick it up for less than a thousand dollars – but it’s a fair price for spending all day handling ebony.

Gifts of White Ceramic & Porcelain

ceramic-and-porcelain-for-xmas

I strongly suggest giving gifts of ceramic and porcelain this year; the look is very classy. I also think picking pieces in white are both season appropriate and pair nicely with most peoples’ home decor. Here are some of the best pieces out this season.

1. Rob Brandt’s Ceramic Ceramic Cups, $10-$12. Netherlands ceramicist Rob Brandt introduced them in 1975, and three decades later the crinkle effect only underscores the ingenious statement they make on our disposable culture.

2. Vast Design’s Circle Carafe, $45 originally $90. A sleek interpretation of the traditional Greek vessel used at ceremonies, because the shape symbolizes the union and the circle of life.

3. BROOKLYNrehab’s Little Ceramic Owl, $20. Hand cast porcelain owl made from a vintage salt shaker mold. He sits proud and will make a lovely addition to a bookshelf for tablescape.

4. Patrick Morris & Boskke’s Sky Planter. Flip your fern, herbs or other house plants on their heads with these planters available in mini $25 – medium $75. New Zealand designer Patrick Morris offers a new way of enjoying plants with his revolutionary process.

5. Kikkerland’s Ceramic Salt & Pepper Men, $12. Adorable little shakers held together with magnet power! And yes, the grains shake out through their eye holes.

6. Studio Prics’s Filigree Skull Money Box, $275. Ceramicost Daniel Pire? envisioned porcelain lace..or filigree, which he applied to enchanting effect on this skull moneybox. This money box must go under the hammer to access any savings inside, forcing the coin collector to come to terms with what exactly is most precious…

7. MichikoShimada’s Vita Salt & Pepper Shakers, $28. Tres Chic! Porcelain with glossy clear glaze. Cork stopper.

8. Studio Qubus’ Little Joseph Candle Holder, $115. Always loved those antique ceramic dolls heads that become detached from their bodies? Us too. Here, the baby head serves as the holder for a candle, and as the candle melts it becomes “hair” for the bald pate.

9. Sagaform’s Tri Herb Pot, $48. Scandinavian in its simple, unadorned and practical design. Insert a bunch in the enlarged opening, and keep hydrated by pouring water into the corner hole.

Home Carbonation Systems

sodastream_penguin2

Home carbonation systems have become trendy in recent months. Maybe this has something to do with the economy. Carbonation systems can be purchased for a little over $100. Some would say that after purchasing such system, you would save hundreds on soda and/or other carbonated drinks in the years to come.

I particularly like the Penguin Carbonation System $199 (including starter kit ingredients) from Soda Stream. This system has a very nice, industrial look and feel to it.

The Tenderloin Project

The_Tenderloin_Project_Kid

I recently read about The Tenderloin Project in Thrillist San Francisco. Having lived in the TL (aka Tenderloin District, San Francisco) in 2006-2007, this project is important to me. Utilizing the interactive mediums of photography and film, The Tenderloin Project aims to capture a compelling and honest portrait of this diverse community.

The_Tenderloin_Project_Sale

The TTP will be showcase in a variety of outlets including a collection of black and white portraits, HD videos, and a soon to be released coffee table book. A line of clothing is also in the works.

The_Tenderloin_Project_Store

If you’re in the mood to purchase any of the pieces, proceeds from the sales will be donated to organizations that promote and give access to art in the Tenderloin.
