Review: Ecote Leather Boot

My Urban Outfitters package arrived last night. In it was a couple of gifts, which I won’t mention since recipients might be reading this post, AND Ecote boots for me! It’s been a cold December. I’ve needed socks and shoes everyday, wearing my limited assortment of boots and booties. I work a little over a mile walk from home (round trip), so I prefer to wear styles that are flat or have a low 1-2″ heel max. For he past month I’ve been on a serious hunt for cute, simple, and classy boots, none of that trendy junk. I’ve been frequenting ideeli, Ruelala, Hautelook, Zappos, Piperlime and Urban Outfitters hoping to find the perfect pair for new kicks.
If you know me well, you probably know I don’t buy anything at regular price. Lucky for me, most stores (aside from Piperlime) have a great sale shoe assortment, so I feel like I’m still able to find current styles at the right prices (note, current styles and trendy styles are not the same thing).
Back to the Urban Outfitters package; in it was a pair of Ecote Leather Crisscross Lace-Up Boots in light brown.

I put them on, and they fit perfectly. My only complaint is that the top of the boot is a bit stiff and isn’t the most comfortable thing to have bumping up to your ankle with every step. I’ve worn them for a full day now and it seems like the stiffness is working itself out – that, or I’m getting used to the feeling!

What to wear: Home for the Holidays

Long lines at the airports, congested freeways and tight schedules can make traveling during the Holiday season chaotic.  Since I can’t clear traffic on the I5 or speed up the security lines, I figured I could inspire you to lighten your load and pack some easy Holiday-worthy pieces that will take you from dinner at grandma’s to catching up with old friends.
Cozy sweater and denim paired with a stylish tote – comfortable and cool – perfect outfit for traveling

Silk blouse paired with skinny denim – casual yet polished – great look for hanging out with the family

Printed longsleeve mini dress paired with platform boots – festive and modern – a bold look for the Holidays

Jewel tone blouse paired with jewel tone platforms – trendy yet classic – perfect for meeting up with those long lost friends

If you’re traveling this Holiday Season, plan out your wardrobe for each day – you’ll avoid over packing (or even under packing).  Start by choosing a few key pieces and plan your outfits around them.  And make sure to incorporate a couple dressier options (for those unplanned evenings out on the town)!

I’ll stop my rumbling about how to pack (I know we all have our own methods).

I hope you all have a fun and festive Holiday!

A Residental Church

The former Saint Jakobus Church, in Utrecht, Netherlands is not what it seems to be from its exterior façade. Originally built in 1870 the church holds a lot of historical value.

The current owners hired Utrecht-based firm of ZECC Architects to transform the church into a home with great attention on space, functionality and light. With over 14,000 sq ft. the home has loads of natural light from all the stained-glass windows. What is most interesting is that it’s for sale.

Karl for Christmas

Looking for a small something for your fashion friends? Then the Karl Lagerfeld snow globe might take your fancy.

The snow globe has been created to go along with Lagerfeld’s capsule makeup collection that will be sold exclusively at Sephora (more details on his makeup line to come shortly). The snow globe features a quote from the designer.

Mon plus grand luxe est de n’avoir a me justifier aupres de personne.

For those of us who aren’t francophones, the quote translates to “My greatest luxury is never to have to justify myself too anyone.”

Sephora’s Eye Pro Lesson Palettes

In case you weren’t born with the make-up gene, that one that would instinctively tell you what colors to use and how to combine them to make your eyes pop, Sephora has made it easy to get the right look for your eyes with their Pro Lesson Palettes.

Pro Lesson Palettes are the easiest way to learn new makeup effects. You’ll get illustrated instructions for two looks: one for day and another for night. Easy to follow without flipping between pages or looking for cards, the instructions are printed directly on the palette.

Pro Lesson Palette: Blue Eyes

This one shows you how to get a beige natural eye and a navy smoky eye.

My sister taught me a way to make the smoky eye look in a very easy manner, it’s like Smoky Eyes for Dummies, even I can do it. And this is a big treat because she agreed to let me record her, we had a blast doing it while we had one of the Harry Potter movies in the background. The only sad part is that even though we were all made-up and ready to go, we decided to stay home and keep watching movies. Sister’s night in!

Review: So Low Sports Bra

The other week I bought the So Low Eclon Sports Bra with Mesh Inset from Swirl.com. I was very excited to get this cute sports bra at 80% off it’s typical $51.00 retail price. I wore it on a 4 mile run with Jessi yesterday and was a little disappointed. The seams in the front that separate the grey and black color blocks irritated my skin, causing slight chaffing (I know, ew). The bra is 90% nylon and 10% lycra, yet it wasn’t very breathable. In fact, on a cold SF day, like yesterday, the bra was soaked when I got home. There’s more, the most disappointing aspect of this So Low sports bra was the arm holes, they are too small, so the fabric was cutting into my armpits constantly. I run 20 miles a week, and have a drawer filled with sports bras of many different brands and I can safely say this one is my least favorite, as least for running. I wouldn’t recommend buying this bra (or this brand…I’ll get into other So Low products in future product reviews). This sports bra should work well (enough) for spinning, yoga or weightlifting where your arms aren’t in constant and repetitive motion while working out.
