Eyeshadow Palettes From Rue La La

I like eyeshadow, but I’m only interested in specific colors and brands; and because I’m sort of frugal, I only buy eyeshadows on Cyber Monday or from flash sale sites like ideeli, Gilt Groupe and Rue La La. I realize I’m not that makeup-trend-forward, but to me, restocking my eyeshadows semi-yearly is about all I need.

My most recent eyeshadows came from Rue La La, in gift form, from Amy the concierge at Rue La La. She knew I had a bad user experience while their website wasn’t working properly, so she sent me the Smashbox ‘Eye Wish’ Palette and the Tarte TEN Limited Edition Collector’s Palette.

Smashbox ‘Eye Wish’ Palette

This is a nicely packaged limited -edition palette with 12 shadows and 4 cream eyeliners (which I really need) and DNA mascara. The palette also comes with a very informative Look Book that will help me figure out how to put this stuff on properly.

Tarte TEN Limited Edition Collector’s Palette

This palette comes in a refillable (and therefore reuseable) gold studded case. Enclosed are 10 eyeshadows, eye liner (which I really need) and an eyeshadow brush.

Thanks again Amy for this wonderful gift, I really do appreciate the great customer service experience you’ve provided.

My Quest for Great Eyelashes

Because of my recently acquired eyelashes, thanks to the use of a lash enhancement serum, I’ve been trying every mascara in front of me. The following is a review of some of the mascaras I’ve tried lately. My Sephora consultant tells me the mascara formula is one thing, but the trick is in the brush and how it applies the mascara into the eyelashes. The mascaras I’ve tried are all great, and yes, they all have very different brushes.

To start off I used Clinique’s High Lengths Mascara.

Clinique High Lengths Brush

This is one of my favorites and carry it in my bag for quick touch-ups. The cool thing about the mascara is the brush, although it looks nothing like a brush. The tiny bristles are actually flexible and thanks to the shape, the mascara doesn’t clump in the brush or my eyelashes. The application can be awkward at first since the brush needs to be very close to the eyelid, but once you get it the results are great.

Next, also by Clinique, is their High Impact Mascara.

This formula has a deeper pigment which is aimed to give your eyes the extra kick. The brush in this case is the standard one which applies the formula evenly and gives your lashes a thicker feel to them. It delivers what it promises, but I felt it heavy on my lashes.

Finally, I tried a mascara from Benefit Cosmetics called Bad Gal (love the name!).

This mascara has one of the thickest brush in the market. It felt a little too thick to add the mascara on my lashes, but it didn’t clump and the end result were very nice and noticeable eyelashes.

Overall I recommend all the mascaras, it just depends on what you like. I’m still looking for the perfect one that will curl my eyelashes and keep them curled all day. This is a quest for me, I’ll keep you informed of the results

Buxom – Fun and Quality Cosmetics

Sometimes I like to put on Rocker Chick makeup with lots of dark and intense colors in my eyes, lips and nails. In order to achieve the look I want, I put on eyeliner inside my eyelids. The only problem is that an eyeliner that does the job is not easy to find anymore. I had an Almay pencil eyeliner, which is now discontinued, and I used it until it didn’t fit in the sharpener anymore. Since then I’ve been looking for a substitute and finally found one with Buxom cosmetics, I’m talking about Buxom Insider Eyeliner.

Now with the inside eyeliner you get the same quality, it’s very smooth and creamy and stays on for a long time without smudging. Because of my look I got the color Onyx (jet black), but they also have Emerald (evergreen), Amethyst (deep violet), Pearl (tru white) and many more.

Another very cool product is a cream eyeshadow called Buxom Stay-There Eye Shadow which just glides on your lids and the different colors are very easy to combine. The names are very cute like Chihuahua (bright silver), Pug (smoky pewter), Bull Dog (intense royal blue) and many more.

Not long ago, I wrote about Buxom’s plumpling lip polishes. They work great and you do get a little addicted to that plumping fresh and tingly feeling on your lips. As as exclusive for Sephora, Buxom is offering the Buxom Chronicles: Four of a Kind collection with Dolly (muted plum), Katie (pale pink), Trixie (shimmering golden rose) and Violetta (shimmering fuschia berry).

These are very fun and quality products!

Lancome Hypnose Drama

Lancome has done it again! They are helping us achieve what nature denied some of us: big and full lashes. Lancome introduce Hypnose mascara, winning a 2006 Beauty Award, promising up to 6 times the volume thanks to their exclusive formula enriched with vitamin B5.

Now they introduced Hypnose Drama, which promises high volume lashes thanks to their S-shaped brush. The brush is designed to give lashes a fanned out and full body look, very dramatic and a great way to add intensity to your vampy stare.

You can find Hypnose Drama at stores such as Macy’s, Sephora and Bloomingdales, as well as online on Lancome’s site. The mascara retails for $24.50, with a waterproof version also available. The more I read and learn about it, the more I want it.  I may not have too many plans for the weekend, except for going to a store, purchase the mascara and be amazed at how my eyes will look.

Eye Lash Enhancement Serum

I was born looking like my Dad’s female look-alike. I inherited his skin tone, oval face, eye shape, smile and temperament. Among all the gifts I received from his side of the gene pool; the one gift I wish he could have kept: my eyelashes.

It’s pathetic how short and straight they are. Even if I use the latest miraculous mascara and curler, less than 30 minutes later they fall back down. Why do I even bother with mascara, you might ask? Because if I didn’t, my eyelashes would be invisible.

When the eye lash enhancement serum Latisse was available I felt hope, although I wasn’t too keen on going to a Doctor to get some of it.

But recently I got my hands on over-the-counter brand called Rapid Lash by Promaxyl.

The product promises results in 4-6 weeks, I’ve been using it for 4 weeks now and I can tell there is a difference on my eyelashes. My routine is the same, use the curler then the mascara, and to my amazement I can actually see big eyelashes on my eyes!

The best part is that several hours later I can still see my eyelashes and I find myself fluttering my eyes just to feel them on my lids (guys seem to like this). I knew I wasn’t imagining things when my sister commented on my lashes, which made me very happy as I fluttered them just for fun.

I haven’t seen this product on a store, but it can be bought online directly on the Rapid Lash website, as well as through online stores like Walgreens.com, Walmart.com or Drugstore.com. Depending where you buy it from, the price ranges from $41.65 to $49.99.

Go ahead! Give your eyes a new look!
