Spring 2012 trends for every shape

Although most of us are just starting to see true signs of winter, fashion magazines have us thinking about what we’ll be wearing this Spring.

A few trends that are already making a statement for Spring 2012 are: romantic silhouettes, color blocking, tribal prints, leather and floral.

As we all know – women are not created equal.  Some are blessed with sexy curves and some are equally blessed to have no curves.  Whichever shape or size you are – I can guarantee that there is something in store for you this Spring.

Identifiers: Bust line and hip line measurements are equal, with a well defined waist

What to wear: V-neck tops or dresses, pencil skirts, wide leg trousers, waist length tops, peep toe heels.  Wear a structured pencil skirt to really show off those curves – for Spring try mixing leather with your work-wear.

Identifiers: Bust line and hip line measurements are equal, with little or no definition to the waist

What to  wear: Gathered waist tops or dresses, pleating, slim leg pants, strappy shoes.  Wear dresses or tops in a chiffon material to add the illusion of curves.  Try a fun tribal print wrap dress this Spring.

Identifiers: The width of your chest is proportionately narrower than your hips

What to wear: Flat front trousers, wrap dresses, belting at the waist, knee high boots.  Wear jersey-like wrap dresses in large prints – especially in a floral print for Spring.

Identifiers: Unidentified waistline

What to wear: Flat front tailored skirts or pants, defined waistlines, slim fitting jackets, peep toe heels or wedges.  Wear structured pieces in solid colors.  For Spring try your hand at color blocking!

Home Away From Home: Indulgence Divine, Malta

I’m in love with the retro beauty of Indulgence Divine, a 16th century townhouse rental in the ancient Maltese city of Vittoriosa, Malta that has been transformed to a modern-day residence by London-based art director Gattaldo. Throughout the townhouse custom-made furniture sits comfortably alongside retro “found pieces”, yet the history of this 16th century house aren’t diminished by its luxe overhaul by Gattaldo. This is the prefect home away from home retreat for two (there is only one bedroom). Indulgence Divine is a perfectly chic rental residence from which to explore Malta, the up-and-coming island that is somewhat of a secret party destination. The townhouse is located in the beautiful historic marina, and the staggering capital of Valletta. Just a short water-taxi ride away – Malta has some of the best architecture in the Mediterranean. Throw in a delightful rooftop terrace, and quite possibly the nicest wardrobes I’ve ever seen, then top it off with an affordable nightly rate, and Gattaldo’s splendid town house conversion may just be one of Europe’s most desirable rental properties.

Balancing Neons and Nudes

I’ve been a loyal supporter of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics for many reasons.  The make-up is subtle and simultaneously fun, there is a variety of beautiful, versatile colors, and the overall “Bobbi look” is natural and fresh.  Considering I wear little make-up and always strive for a more conservative and undone look, Bobbie always delivers.  This season, she is featuring her Neons and Nudes Collection, the perfect blend of subtlety and brightness for the winter season.  How simple yet genius, right?  We all know the fashion rule, “Bright here, neutral there,” and we stick to it for obvious reasons.  The beauty of this new collection is balance: balancing brightness and neutrality for a glowing, natural look.  While the new collection offers a nude eye palette, an ink liner, a lip gloss in Citrus, Cosmic Pink, and Ultra Violet, an eye shadow in Blue Bell and Ultra Violet, a lipstick in Atomic Orange, Neon Pink, and Uber Beige, I am most impressed with the blush in Nude Pink and Nude Peach.  The colors are incredible and offer just the right amount of color for a radiant look–and they work with any skin tone.  They complement bright lips and neutral eyes, as well as bring the whole face together.  Whether you’re looking for a less-is-more look in the day or a festive, flirty look in the evening, this collection is simply the one!

StriVectin-TL Neck Tightening Cream

In the eternal fight against aging StriVectin is at the cutting edge with skin treatments formulated to dimishing deep wrinkles and stretch marks or give certain areas a little lift as it is in the case of StriVectin-TL Tightening Neck Cream.

A rich, luxuriously nourishing cream that delivers potent firming and moisturizing ingredients to the neck and jawline. StriVectin’s new three-tiered technology tightens on skin’s surface upon application. It provides immediate and long-term benefits, including hydrating, lifting, and firming properites. It also improves skin’s overall tone and elasticity.

According to the instructions StriVectin-TL should be used twice a day and after two weeks you will feel a noticeable improvement. In my case, I did notice a small improvement, but nothing that would amaze me, then again my neck does not sag too much….at least not yet.

The cream is thick but glides on very nicely with a slight and pleasant scent. From what I’ve seen in other people’s reviews some women absolutely loved it and I’m glad for them since the 1.7 fl. oz. jar costs $89.

StriVectin-TL has very high end ingredients such as Patented NIA-114 discovered in skin cancer prevention research which helps rebuild skin layers and is clinically proven to reduce visible signs of aging, wrinkles and stretch marks. Other ingredients include collagen, shea butter, cumingii leaf and others.

Because of the cost I suggest you ask for a sample first and then decide for yourself. This might be what the Doctor ordered, without having to go to one. Also check out their product line of anti-wrinkle and stretch marks creams.

You Better Believe I’m Talking About Wearing White Pants in the Middle of Winter

Times are tough, and you’ve got to stretch that hard-earned dollar as far as it can go.  One of the secrets that I’ve discovered about fashion is that with a little creative thinking, any article of clothing can be worn all throughout the year.  The best example I can offer would be white clothing, in particular white jeans.  The whole “no white after Labor Day” rule was probably concocted by some bland, pushy female who only lived in one climate zone and had a penchant for bossing around her unfortunate friends and family into doing what she wanted.  But I digress.  White jeans are one of my favorite wintertime wardrobe staples.  Black and white tops seem to coordinate the best with a white bottom, but recently I’ve added a navy blue plaid shirt and a dark denim button-down to the mix.  Black boots are usually the best option for footwear with white pants, but silver shoes look great as well.  Any suggestions on what else you can wear with white jeans this winter?  Let me know!

(From top to bottom: Levi’s 524 Skinny Jeans, Abercrombie and Fitch Navy Blue Pink Plaid Shirt,  J. Crew The Jean Shop Dark Denim Shirt, Roxy Arctic Circle Sweater, Akira Sheer Mesh Turtleneck, Irregular Choice “Sazzle Boot,” Jeffrey Campbell “Bonnie” heels)

Spring 2012 Fashion hits the pages

Spring 2012 fashion campaigns are starting to surface and as far as I can tell, there is no clear-cut set of trends.  This Spring, photographers and designers are having a ‘come as you are’ moment, where there is a little something for everyone.

Here’s a look at the bigger picture behind the Spring 2012 season.

Balenciaga Spring 2012

The exaggerated (yet classic) cool girl

Chanel Spring 2012

Modernity meets traditional – very Karl Lagerfeld

Cushnie et Ochs Spring 2012

The Italian family – glamorous and possibly dysfunctional

Givenchy Spring 2012

Gisele Bundchen as the leather clad mermaid

Louis Vuitton Spring 2012

Review: Raleigh Cadent i8 Performance Hybrid

My husband, Tyler, gave me a nice new bike for Christmas. I suspected he’d get me a bike because I’ve been talking about biking for about 5 months now. Plus, he’s always been a big gift giver. In previous years he bought me a new laptop (a DELL studio XPS) and a widescreen monitor for my home office set up.

Getting a bike for Christmas, for someone as thorough a buyer as Tyler was a relief. I knew instantly that this was the best bike for me. He’s really good at taking my considerations into account when buying me gifts. In this case, I wanted a road bike, but he thought a mountain bike (like he has) would be much more practical. So, it’s no surprise that he got me a road/mountain hybrid bike.  My new bike, the Raleigh Cadent i8 is a light weight, high performance bike known by the experts as a “Flat-Bar Road Bike“. In my opinion, and 1 week of riding experience, the bike is a road bike with upright (mountain bike like) handlebars. This puts the rider ins a position that is slightly more upright than your typical road bike, but other than this…it’s a road bike. He purchased the bike from Mike’s Bikes here in Soma. The sales people there claim the tires are wider than typical road bike tires, but I can’t tell the difference.

I really like the look of this bike. The internal gears keep the look very clean and sleek. The bike handles to road very well, and its lightweight aluminum frame and carbon fork make biking a breeze. I used to ride a 1970’s Peugeot road bike, which was too heavy for me and made biking miserable. The bike can handle paved roads, gravel/dirt and grass well (I’ve already tested these surfaces out).

The biggest disadvantage of the bike is the standard seat the comes with the bike. It hurts my toosh. I assume I’ll get used to it soon enough, if not, we’ll get a more cushiony seat to swap the original seat with. I’ll need to put on a good couple hundred miles before I know if the seat is really a problem.

I would recommend this bike for any novice or intermediate biker, the price seems just right for someone who is serious about biking, but doesn’t want to pay $1000.

DRY HAIR can look thirsty; so not cute!

Normally, I like to stay in my lane and rave Ooooh La-La about Cosmetics & Makeup but today’s review highlights my new “HAIR” obsession.  When I say I’ve tried a gazillion products I mean it but the Andre Walker Hair Care line had me in the mirror doing a serious double-take.

Let’s get into the Who, What & Why…

Who – Andre Waker, hairstylist to the stars…one really big star by the name of (Oprah Winfrey)
What – I tried both the Total Keratin Obsession (TKO) Deep Conditioning Treatment Hair Mask and the “Q” Quench Essential Oil
Why – because my hair lacked serious luster & hydration

Let’s face it…our environment is rough!  Our hair strands have a lot to fight off, from UV rays to environmental pollutants – all this causes breakage but when were equipped with products that offer high doses of Olive oil, Aloe, Morroccan Argan, Keratin, Vitamin E we can expect brilliant tresses.  For us Naturalista’s (Non chemical wearing chicks, except for covering the grey lovelies) hair moisture loss is our number one battle so if this hair mask can restore & repair with a few uses – I said to myself, DUH!!

Here’s a pic so you can recognize it on shelves and for all you HSN.com Vampires:

Now the (TKO) conditioning treatment does what it says: CONDITIONS but you should get into the habit of applying on a “weekly” basis to see and feel the difference.  As with other deep conditioners, when applied with a warm towel or shower cap to create that greenhouse effect, the penetration factor goes bananas and “DEEP”, hence the name.

Moving on, since I commonly wear “wash & go styles” I prefer pre-styling aides and the Q-oil fits the bill. It quenches my thirsty hair and has me looking polished something all us gals’ take delight IN.

Oh and PRO TIP I discovered, the Q-oil can be used for skin, bam you know all about that...as I title clearly suggest: “thirsty hair, thirsty skin ain’t cute!”
