Adidas and the Need for Speed
My love for shoes runs deep. Whenever I buy new shoes, I always find the most bored, willing soul to let me show off my new footwear and do a little modeling. I even come prepared with an awesome ringtone that makes an appearance as my runway music. Adidas, evidently, thinks the same way. On October 27, Adidas and EA held a party at the Adidas Market Place location in San Francisco in honor of the release of EA’s new video game Need for Speed: The Run, which just so happens to feature an Adidas shoe called Originals Need for Speed Top X.
There was music, free food and bar (always a plus in my book) and, of course, plenty of TVs to practice the video game. The crowd, from what I could see, was predominantly gamers, so this wasn’t the typical fashion launch event I was used to. Being one of the few fashion bloggers at the event, I quickly realized that I was probably the only person in the room actually interested in trying the shoe on. At first glance, it really didn’t seem like much more than a black patent leather high top gym shoe, but once I slipped it on, surprisingly it looked really good, which just goes to show that you can’t judge a shoe by its display stand. One of the event photographers even took pictures of me trying it on, which was fine with me until I remembered that my other foot was flaunting a 4 week-old pedicure in a sandal. This fashion hybrid event was fun and I look forward to attending more of these types of events, but for any worried (i.e., skeptical) fashion blogger who finds him/herself as a newbie at a gamer event, here are a few points I learned from this evening: EA employees will bust out the break dancing, completely disregarding the fact that they are thrusting their bodies near pointy metal clothing racks, playing video games is always more fun while under the influence of complimentary booze, and don’t bother to get an answer for why there is a group of guys dressed up as The Misfits.
Magnetic Polish by Nails, Inc
I have to hand it to Sephora, they did a good job building up the excitment for Nails, Inc new product, the Magnetic Polish.
I first saw the introduction video from the Sephora YouTube Channel and after that I started hounding the store with calls and popping in the store every time I was nearby. Finally the product arrived and I got it!
Right now the following two colors are available for purchase
Trafalgar Square (chrome)
Houses of Parliament (purple)
And the new color, soon to be available, Whitehall Teal (teal)
The whole excitement is because this is something new in nail polish, and the name says it all, it’s Magnetic, it uses a special magnet in order to create a ripple 3D type effect on the nails that cannot be replicated with a brush. This is really the easiest way to do nail art by yourself; no need of extra tools or even a steady hand. Just apply one coat, let it dry, apply a second coat, use the magnet and see the magic in seconds!
This video explains a little more how to apply it:
When applied with a base and top coat, the polish will remain without chipping for at least 5 days if not more. One thing is for sure, now that Nails, Inc is in my radar I’ll be trying their other polish and will tell you the results, one I’m particularly interested in is the Kensington Caviar Top Coat. And finally here’s a pic of my nails taken with my favorite model.
Eddie Bauer Blogger Day 2011

If there is one thing I have learned from October 26’s Eddie Bauer Blogger Day, it is that picking out an outfit for someone else to wear is significantly more difficult than it sounds. Dressing someone else is the best way to see your own sense of style reflected back to you. And let me tell you, as a person who, at a particularly fashionably rebellious stage in my teens, wore sheer pants and a Metallica t-shirt to a family bible summer camp, I was a nervous wreck to see what my personal style looked like standing right in front of me. Style bloggers from around the country were invited to attend Eddie Bauer Blogger Day to celebrate their new line of holiday clothing and accessories, and were asked to dress a model (male or female, or both — I chose both) using the new line of clothing. After perusing the store for about thirty minutes, I found the outfit for my female model. And after a mere eighty minutes and two failed attempts, I finally found the outfit for my male model. After all was said and done, I was finally happy with my two looks, which I have decided to name “Suck it, Miami! Sitting by a hearth in Vermont is WAY more fun.” Leaving the event that night, I realized two important points that will prove crucial for any soon-to-be style bloggers out there: 1) dressing a model with a cameraman following you is a situation that would be improved significantly if booze was offered, and 2) never arrive first to an event when you haven’t thoroughly reviewed the press release. Special thanks to the gracious hosts, the Eddie Bauer Market Place staff and Mark Holcomb, for inviting Style Bust and allowing me my very first opportunity to test out my stylist skills.
We’ll Always Have Paris
Ah Paris. Final stop on the dizzying bullet train of spring shows.
So much to see, so much to love. Every trend( flappers!, couture! prints! graphic!), every era (20’s! 30’s! 50’s! 70’s!), every theme and every color were all on display in an explosion of creativity and astounding design. Favorites were hard to select, but my old standby’s shone as brilliantly as ever, with some fresh additions bringing the love. As Papa Hemingway would know, truly a moveable feast.

Styling in the City
A couple weeks ago I had the opportunity to style and photograph a few gorgeous gals, with my partner in crime at Ponyfeathers. The photo shoot was a lot of fun and a huge success – also, the weather couldn’t have been more perfect!
Here are a few favorites from our styling debut, we call this one –
Street Meets Surf.
Tiffany Riedel, Sarah Mercado, Alex Tkachuk
Stay tuned for more photos from Ponyfeathers – this is only the beginning!
Top Three TV Shows
Day 27 of my 30 day blogging challenge is to list my favorite TV Shows
As a style blog owner, it would be a crime if I didn’t list Project Runway as one of my favorite shows. Season 9 has been spectacular, and while I really like Anya as a person, Viktor has the best designs and an awesome personality. I really hope he wins this season! Also, did you know that there is a Project Runway Action site? The company I work for (by day) runs it…so it’d would be terrible for me not to plug here! Oddly enough, I’ve been sitting next to the rack of season 8 and 9 garments that are available to buy on the Project Runway Action for a few weeks now, and I can say with certainty that Viktor’s construction is impeccable!
(psst: the company I work for also runs my Lifetime shop, where you can buy non-auction Project Runway goods).
Tyler and I just started watching Castle about a month ago. Seasons 1-3 were fantastic, making me a huge fan. I’m not sure I fully understand the direction the show is taking in its current season (season 4). I plan to continue watching because Kate Beckett is gorgeous, and her relationship with Richard Castle is entertaining. The company I work for also runs Shop The Shows, which has a small collection of Castle merchandise.
This show has been good for so many seasons now. My favorite character is Robin, followed by Barney. I think I relate to Robin’s character most…that’s probably because she’s from the North! When I was a young pup in rural Minnesota I did hope to someday grow up and become Canadian! Should be no surprise by now that the company I work for also runs the CBS Store – where you can find a handful of HIMYM goodies.

The Show Must Go On
There’s no stopping the fashion machine. The London and Milan shows went by at light speed, do we even know what we saw?
London left me dazed and confused for the most part, while my favorites in Milan are still my favorites for obvious reasons: ingenuity, couture level craftsmanship, and style to burn. Mrs Prada, pimp my ride!

Spring 2012 RTW: London
For me, the London designers were hitting all the wrong notes. Many collections looked as if an Easter basket had blown up, and some were just tired, re-treads of past hits (in the all pervasive Easter pastels, or obnoxious jungle prints). A few gems were to be found, however, in the unholy mess:
