Tights as Pants
Women began wearing tights as pants back in 2009. Since the hideous looks inception, we’ve all seen the awful photos of celebrities and regular women alike making some huge faux paux. In case you need a refresher, here are a couple of my favorite tights as pants mishaps.

A couple of rules to follow with tights and leggings:
- Make sure you shirt, skirt or dress covers your butt (seems obvious, right?)
- Whenever wearing tights or leggings, make sure to wear underwear that’s the same color as your tights or leggings
- Lastly, know your limits. Bend over in a mirror before you leave the house so you know what you should and shouldn’t do (physically in your outfit). Check yourself out in the mirror in different lighting to make sure you know the worst case scenario for your look
- If you have doubts, ALWAYS change your outfit.
We’re beginning to see a lot of runway shows featuring tights and leggings worn properly. Here are a couple of my favorite looks done well. Keep these images in mind when you’re putting together your next tights or legging look.

For those that are looking for additional support, try thigh high compression stockings. But remember, these are not pants!
All Kinds of Everything
It’s Not All About the Clothes
Edited by Meghan Donovan at WIT & Whimsy
If you’re a fashion blogger, you know that personal style is often not just about what apparel you put on each day, but it’s about accessories and shoes and beauty, but even more so, it’s about the little elements in every day life that inspire you and influence your taste. As fashion blogging continues to evolve I’ve watched more and more bloggers share little intimate looks into their every day lives, the moments that fill their weekends with joy and those unexpected experiences – as trivial as they may be sometimes – that have you taking to the keyboard and storytelling to your readers.

Spring Cleaning
Have you been doing any spring cleaning lately? I don’t mean the kind where you effectively remove a boyfriend/girlfriend who is nothing but dead weight, I’m talking about actual cleaning. As annoying as it is to set aside an entire day getting yourself dirty in order to make your home clean, the end result is always worth it: a sparkling clean, shiny home. And being in a sparkling clean, shiny home makes me want to wear not the usual sweatpants and sweat-stained t-shirt that I still own from 8th grade. I actually would prefer to wear sparkly, shiny things, too.
Nail Polish Strips
Recently you might have noticed in your favorite drug-store, grocery store or beauty supply shop a display containing a new product from Sally Hansen called Salon Effects.

Skeptical at first I had to try them and now I can’t stop showing off my nails. I was lucky enough to find Lace one of their most popular designs. Even though it was my first time using the product and I did it slowly, I was able to put them on in about 10 minutes. All you need is a clean nail and no drying time since I didn’t need to apply a base or top coat.
I deliberately mistreated my nails to see just how much the strips could stand. I cleaned and scrubbed without gloves (huge no-no for me) but my nails still looked great. Another thing I liked about the design is that every nail looks slightly different, which makes it look more professional.

Another advantage is that the strip protects your nail against breaking. I noticed all my nails grew the same length with the strips. Taking them off was not as easy as taking off nail polish, I did need to use more cotton and remover than I normally do, but I was able to take it all off.
Sephora by OPI also launched their own strips that complements their Glee collection with designs such as Navy & White Polka Dots, Music Notes and Gold Stars.
In the long run the nail polish strips could get pricey since each box will contain enough strips for only one application and for the same or lower price you can get nail polish that will last longer. But overall this is a great way to get your nails done quickly at a fraction of the time and cost of a nail salon.
Of course, if you much prefer going to a salon and having a professional pamper you with a mani/pedi and gorgeous nails, then check for salons that offer the Minx line of fashion strips, which is all the rage among the stars now. Minx is not sold to the public, only licensed professionals can buy them and they require heat so they can be applied. The cool thing about Minx is the variety and details of their designs. According to my manicurist Minx lasts up to two weeks; I might give them a try next time I go my favorite nail salon.
Finally, this is my very first attempt at a Vlog, and in it I’m showing off my nails decorated with Sally Hansen’s Lace design. It was hard not to show them off, especially since everywhere I went women commented on my nails and I was more than happy to tell them all about it as I looked at my nails with pride.
Paul McDonald Brings Real Music To American Idol
To be completely honest I’m getting a little tired of writing recaps on Idol. But I’m committed to bringing Style Bust readers a weekly update so I can keep you in the loop with pop culture (this is perfect water cooler talk, right?) It was rock and roll week on Idol and the contestants chose from a massive catalog consisting of the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame inductees. So let’s start with what I liked tonight…
I’m sure Casey pleased his fans with Creedence Clearwater Revival. It was definitely cool to hear a song of theirs on the Idol stage. And with him playing the upright bass, you just don’t see that everyday. I loved it. Amazing performance.
Pia chose an uptempo song, finally. I just don’t know how someone can have an incredible voice like she does and then I just sit at home feeling indifferent about her. And I think I finally put some pieces together as to why. The judges keep pushing Pia to develop stage presence, and no doubt about it she’s doing her best to gain control of the stage. But she has no rhythm, it’s not her fault. But because she can’t move, I think it’s hard to see her feel the music. She relies so heavily on her voice just as it is, but she doesn’t make me believe in anything.
Now Haley made me believe in something. I think she’s the dark horse this season. She’s really improving each week and I hope she gets to stick around longer. She sings with conviction, its a truly beautiful thing. I think the past two or three weeks she’s found her niche and she just needs to hang in the competition. Her voice can carry itself but when she is actually feeling the song, her performances are just so impressive.
And Paul was back in action this tonight after being in the bottom three last week. He sang “Folsom Prison Blues,” by Johnny Cash and killed it. He had the last slot of the night and it felt like an encore. It’s still so strange for me to see an artist like him on the American Idol stage. He’s playing to a tough crowd that is familiar with and responds well to the Pia Toscano’s of the competition. But tonights performance is what Paul is about, it felt sooo good! He is no doubt the kind of artist I want to see in concert. He clearly knows how to rock out. Its incredible to see some real musicians on stage this season. Idol has come a long way over the past couple years.
James slowed it down with, “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”. However I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would. Lauren performed a mediocre version of Natural Woman. The song is overdone, it gets performed just about every season and honestly I don’t think anyone has performed it better than Kelly Clarkson, since she slayed it in season 1. It’s a tough song to sing and while I liked seeing Lauren more relaxed, overall it didn’t blow me away. Jacob did “Man in the Mirror” by Michael Jackson. It’s rare when I’m impressed by a MJ cover and his rendition was no different. I liked that he brought his own “Jacob” flavor, but at the same time the original is just too good to touch. He got a positive response, (but at this point who doesn’t on this show). It’s a big love fest with the judges, for no apparent reason. The contestants are good but not as amazing as the judges seem to think.

Ms. Lykke Li
Not only do her vocals rock–she has a unique, raw, and most poignant voice–but she’s incredibly cute and chic. Lykke, Li, a Swedish indie singer recently released her album, Wounded Rhymes, which I’ve been playing obsessively. And it can’t hurt that it has received stellar reviews. Lou Thomas, from BBC Music, claims it is “another outstanding album, slightly better and definitely bigger than Youth Novel,” and Rolling Stone critic, Jody Rosen, expresses that it’s “a weird-pop gem” with “torchy love songs that nod to Sixties hits but are stretched into all kinds of shapes. Li dips into garage rock and wintry folk, but her guiding spirit seems to be Phil Spector, and she laces the music with booming percussion and girl group style romantic melodrama.” Lykke Li, in an interview with Pitchfork Media, shared, “The album is darker, moodier, and the lyrics are heavier. There’s less atmosphere, more directness. I was 19 when I recorded my first album, and I’ve been exposed to many things during these last few years; all the baby fat is gone. I dove into the craziness and did things that maybe I would think twice about when I get older. And I’m a really restless person; I’m tired of the way I sounded or looked yesterday. So it’s hard to hang onto this image of me as this young Swedish female in this world. People comment on how you look, it’s so unnecessary. I just wanted people to listen to what I have to say instead of focusing on anything else. And, of course, there are a lot of things I’m angry about in the world.”
If you’re into Ms. Li, I’m sure you own or have listened to her previous album, Youth Novels. While I own and love both albums, there’s something about the latter album that I’ve come to value more. Youth Novels is full of emotion, but it’s more surface-level, fun, and carefree. Wounded Rhymes, however, is deeply emotional, and her lyrics cut to the bone, from songs “Unrequited Love” to “I Follow Rivers” to “Jerome.” There’s intensity, along with pain, frustration, melancholia, and deep desires. Her songs are real, which isn’t easy to find with many musical performers.
You Can’t Fool Me
Whose idea was it to set aside one day in the year where imbeciles have the entire day to make everyone around them suffer with pranks? In my opinion (and unfortunately, in my experience), pranks go hand in hand with bodily harm, and I’m all about staying as far away from a hospital as possible. But how do I get people to understand that I mean business and that they better not mess with me? My solution: studs. Anything studded reminds me of bad ass biker babes, so I have found a few items that I will have by next year so that I will be good and ready. And to the jerkfaces who think that stealing my sandwich out of the staff refrigerator is comedy gold, I have 25 words for you: we have cameras in the building and I can ask Grounds to bring me the tapes of the lunchroom in order to catch you thieves.

Now I know this belt only has one stud, but it doesn’t really take much to scare off people who only pull pranks once a year – on a day that is reserved for pranks.
