A Savvy Approach to Online Shopping
This post was edited by guest blogger: Sarah Simpson
Online shopping gives people an opportunity to find out what’s for sale, as well as an opportunity to show off your budgeting skills.
By mastering the art of online shopping, you’re going to go far in the world and so are the dollars you own. Online shopping has become the premier place to be a savvy shopper. Here’s why.
Selection
Online shoppers have an advantage over their offline counterparts. Internet users can
explore a list of products that never even make it to the shelves of stores. There are products and
brands to choose from that you’ve never seen in a store before, and this gives you the ability to find
lower prices on the items you need.
Coupons
You can’t walk into a store and receive a list of thousands of coupons. The Internet lets you find this
list of coupons and it lets you search for what you need. The search function is a powerful tool for
saving money online. When you search for product coupons, you’re going to find results that are
mind-boggling.
Privacy
There’s no need to be interrupted while you’re shopping. You can shop at all hours of the day or
night without facing a crowd of people that break your shopping concentration. Shopping is fun but
it also requires the shopper to think and debate possible purchases. Without the noise of a shopping
crowd, it’s easier for a shopper to consider their options and make wise decisions.
Compare
Comparison shopping is one of the major advantages of online shopping. It’s possible to search for
millions of products and receive pricing from thousands of different online stores. This is a luxury
that was unheard of even 10 short years ago but now it’s a miracle that’s commonplace. It’s the kind
of advantage that an online shopper should always use when shopping on the Internet.
Don’t Forget
- Browse through collection after collection. Make sure you’ve seen all the merchandise.
- Never forget the coupons. There is a coupon for almost everything you shop for.
- Comparison shopping is essential. Always do a comparison search before buying.
When you shop in this way, you’ll find that your online shopping choices will save you thousands of
dollars over time. You’ll find that you have much more money to spend during the month and you’ll
find that you can make more fun purchases when you save money on the things you need.
Shopping is sometimes about necessity but a good deal of it is meant to be fun. There are so
many products and services out there that can bring excitement and improvement to your life. By
shopping online, you save money while you find those products and services.
Sarah Simpson loves shopping! But she also likes to make sure that she’s truly picking up a bargain!
She currently operates Offer UK, which lists a range of fashion discounts and coupon codes,
including Miss Selfridge discount codes and those offered by other leading clothing retailers.
Paper Windows at SEPTIEME ETAGE
Septieme Etage in Geneva, Switzerland has been known to produce some remarkable window displays. I posted about the store’s paper cut displays produced by Mia Pearlman.
Septieme Etage is at it once again with window displays made of Fedrigoni paper. Artists Natascha Madeiski and Alex Graef designed the graphic displays. The visuals are an extension of the artists lamp project with Fedrigoni, called Naked City Lights.
Blinging back
I absolutely love details on the back of dresses and tops (whether it be simple buttons or a low, sexy scoop), the details in the back can completely transform the entire look.
I love the subtle feminine bow tie in the back
One trend that was spotted a while back (especially on the red carpet), was the backwards necklace. I loved it then. And I still do!
The backwards necklace works best with a dress (or top) that has a high neckline in the front and a deep scoop in the back. If you’re going for a sexy look, try a thin, long chain like Kate Hudson wore to the SAG Awards. A shorter, drop pearl necklace looks great with a vintage dress, like Ashley Olsen wore to the CFDA Awards.
The backwards necklace can be tricky and should be very minimal to draw just the right amount of attention to the back.
This anonymous lady had the right idea, but there is too much going on (she looks like she got tangled up in her necklace). Instead of wearing a multi-chain necklace with a large pendant, she should have opted for a thin, rope like necklace with a tassel.
All of you ladies out there that are planning on wearing a backless dress this New Year’s Eve, try out the backward necklace trend and really make a statement!
Happy Holiday’s!
UStream
Social media is booming. As I continue my search for full time positions in Chicago I have come across many job postings that are looking for social media “experts.” I want to meet one of these experts myself. All of these programs are so new, and different ones are popping up on a daily basis. I think of myself as extremely technically savvy and can utilize social media for my marketing efforts, I wonder if I, myself, could be considered an expert. At the same time it is so hard to keep up with it all. Today I finally broke down and made myself a Ustream account and I want to share my experience with you.
What is UStream you ask? Basically it’s a live, interactive broadcasting platform that can be used by anyone with an internet connection and webcam. The person producing the stream uses their webcam and then there is a live chat feature. So I mean every show is different but you can communicate with the streamer using the chat tool. Today I “joined the crowd” and I sat in on a talk with one of my favorite bands, Everybody Else. They are so major. They produce some incredible pop songs, and not Justin Bieber bubblegum pop love stuff. This is like electrifying pop, rock, funk music (think OK Go type of sound) that makes you just feel so darn good. And they are one band that can pull their sound off live incredibly. I would recommend them to just about anyone. This was their first Ustream. I wasn’t sure what to expect and there were certainly times that felt awkward but overall I was sucked in. The hour was completely entertaining, for no real reason at all. It was like sitting at a q&a panel with the band, with 40 other people. You wrote questions or statements in the chat box and they responded. It is the perfect way to interact with fans, even my mom who knows nothing about them found the hour to be intriguing. We enjoyed developing questions, seeing what others had to say and hearing the bands replies.
I’ve always said the best thing about Twitter is a celebrity’s ability to interact with their fans. It’s a short and easy way to show the fans that their voice is heard. But Ustream took this a complete step further. I haven’t seen Everybody Else in two years, they are still working on their new album and it’s like today I got to catch up on everything they’ve been doing for the past two years. I got to reminisce and ask their lead singer Carrick if he remembered dancing in the streets with me and on top of my friends car in San Diego at the end of Hanson tour. I also was able to ask them about their PR team and found out that they are still working on developing one. Which lead me to the idea to start a new project and work on a proposal for Everybody Else. Technology makes my job so exciting. I took notes immediately after the Ustream to think of all the ways I could utilize this program with clients. And of course I wanted to share my experience with my favorite StyleBust readers, in hopes that you might find the people that you like on there. The nice thing about Ustream is you can sign in using your Facebook, Twitter, or Google accounts. In the future I will update on Facebook which Ustreams I’m tuning into. In the mean time I think its’ absolutely necessary that you all check out Everybody Else and as always you can follow me on Twitter and now on Ustream @MusicITZLife.
Ke$ha Covers The Rolling Stones
I’ve been sitting on this video for a week or two now. Every time I watch it I end up at a loss for words. Hence why it’s taken me awhile to blog about it. Ke$ha isn’t exactly a household name, but I think most people in America at least have heard her song Tik Tok. Ke$ha creates some of the best pop songs in my opinion, and I think a lot of people have a love hate relationship with her. It’s like, her songs are cool but her look is overdone. The music is over produced and while she has a great sound, I always thought the over production was done to hide her voice. Shes got a typical look and attitude for a pop star, so with the way the industry has been recently, most assume… her look is what she has to offer. According to her lyrics she has an extreme lifestyle, waking up in the morning feeling like P.Diddy, and brushes her teeth with a bottle of jack, but strip her down and this girl can actually sing.
It reminds me of Katy Perry in a way. However I believe Katy Perry has established herself better in the industry. Here’s a video of Katy Perry at South by Southwest (*enter shameless plug for myself here* – if someone could just sponsor a trip for me there I would write some kick ass blogs for you). Anyway this song is off her first album and you see Katy performing in a completely different way than as people see her now. I never cared about how she kissed a girl and liked it, but when I saw this video a couple years ago she gained credibility and my full respect. I’ve loved her ever since, she’s fierce.
These two videos are just great examples of how media and pr people control what you see. They branded these two amazing artists into pop star sensations. Which isn’t a bad thing, each have found their niche and have created incredible careers for themselves. But it’s like if this video is the true Ke$ha’, and she loves the Rolling Stones, and this is what inspires her… then man let the girl sing. And Katy Perry if she came out rocking on stage with a guitar tomorrow she would gain so much credibility and expand her fanbase by the thousands. I’m a PR person, and I love branding and image so stories like this truly blow my mind. I honestly don’t believe that Ke$ha would be as well known if she would have began her career with acoustic songs like this, however I need to know why it takes so much digging to find these treasures. Whatever the case, I enjoy sharing with my favorite Stylebust readers. Comment below, I’m interested to know your thoughts on Katy Perry and Ke$ha.
DIY Holiday gifts
Looking for a fun DIY jewelry project for those cold and rainy days this winter? Or perhaps a last minute DIY Christmas gift for your best girlfriend (don’t worry, you’re not the only procrastinator). There’s nothing more special than wearing something handmade!
You can find wire wrapped rings at pretty much any boutique, but you you’ll have to pay a pretty penny for these little accessories. So, why not put on some good music, get your friends involved and let those creative juices flow?! It’s fun, easy and affordable.
Materials needed for DIY wire ring:
– 2 ft of 22 gauge metal, silver, or gold wire
– 1 Semi- precious stone bead of your choice
– A ring mandrel (used to form rings of your desired size)
– Wire cutter
– Flat nose pliers
– A good grip
Few easy steps:
– Begin by wrapping one end of the wire around the mandrel four times.
– Keeping the wire band wrapped tightly around the ring form, string the bead through the long end of the wire and wrap it three times tightly around the 4-layered band, at the end closest to the beads hole.
– Continue to wrap the wire four times beneath the stone, around the wire going through the bead. This will create a platform where the stone will sit.
– Then, again tightly wrap the wire three times around the 4 -layered band closest the beads hole.
– Finish by cutting the end of the wire and pushing it flat with your pliers so that it doesn’t poke you.
5 Ways to Have a Mod Holiday

These recyclable trees instantly make your holidays bright. I suggest silver, white or daring pink. Dress the tree with shiny glass or plastic ornaments of the same color for a sophisticated monochromatic look or go for high contrast with red or green. Don’t forget the tinsel. Retro Ornaments are available at www.retro-redheads.com or www.etsy.com. A couple of Don Featherstone plastic flamingos in the front yard wouldn’t hurt either.

4. Watch a Mod Era Movie
The Grinch Who Stole Christmas (1966) is a classic example of the avant garde and fantastical design ideals from the midcentury modern movement. Ever notice how fashionable those whos were?
