Shop The Far Out: Find Style Online

Shopping online boutiques has become an obsession for style conscious women who value a good deal and quality product. But even the most savvy online shoppers consistently find themselves asking, “Does it look like it‟s worth the price they are asking?” and “Will this look the same on me as it does on this model?” The owners of Shop the Far Out have made it their priority to make the answers to these questions a resounding “YES!” Shopthefarout.com arrives at the perfect time with product that is wearable, functional and represents the best of what you want for your wardrobe.
Shopthefarout.com is a new boutique and complete fashion online destination for women. The goal of the site is to make great fashion more accessible by providing high quality designer products styled for the everyday woman. Stressing the quality of product, fit and design, the finely curated shop brings the true ’boutique’ experience back online. Founder Geraldine Calixte, views clothing and accessories as a form of self-expression. There are no rules to personal style, no limitations to how a woman can show off her panache. image of Shop the far out compliments of you

This is where Compliments of You (known as C. O. Y. within the sites navigation) becomes an integral tool of the website. This section features real women who have styled their own looks by incorporating their favorite pieces with items from Shop The Far Out. Whether your personal style is edgy like Rihanna‟s, refined like Emma Watson‟s or on trend like Kim, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian, Compliments of You enables the shopper to envision how to incorporate new pieces from Shop The Far Out into existing wardrobe or become inspired to try something new!

“Ultimately it’s not about filling a trend, it‟s about finding items that work for your features. The best accessory is confidence, and when you find a piece that fits and looks great, that confidence inherently shines through” emphasizes Geraldine, who passionately focuses on individuality. No two women are alike; some women are more downtown a la Zoe Kravitz while others prefer Blake Lively‟s uptown chic. Shop the Far Out recognizes this and embraces those differences. It gives women permission to find something different.

With brands such as Bleulab Reversible Denim, Fallon, Madison Harding, NSHA and Rebecca Minkoff, Shop the Far Out has something for everyone. There is a personal touch to the items selected and finding these specific gems on other retail sites might be a difficult task. Check it out at www.shopthefarout.com

Midsummer obsessions

Summer is in full-swing and so is the fashion here in San Francisco, and I’m loving what I’ve seen so far! The great thing about SF fashion is that it differs from neighborhood to neighborhood.  You’ll have the Dolores Park goers wearing cut-offs and a band t-shirt and then you’ll have the Hayes Valley shoppers wearing summer dresses paired with boat shoes.  Both very cute and fitting to their neighborhoods.

But what I’ve gathered so far, is that the overall look this summer is minimal and feminine.  Personally, I love it!  The looks are clean and very refreshing.

A few things that I’m obsessing over for this summer:

1. Beach hair and flare leg denim (TEXTILE – another great line from the Olsen twins)

2. Karen Walker sunnies (so many styles – I’ll have one of each)

3.Organic stone ring

4. SuperGoop sunscreen (I heard this stuff is great, just wish I would’ve had it before last weekend – I have a gnarly sunburn)

5. Flat ankle strap sandals (great color for summer)

6. Tocca Perfume (tons of great scents, Stella is my favorite)

7. Large non-leather tote

Warm weather has finally arrived in San Francisco, and just in time for the 4th of July celebrations taking place all over the city.  Weather you’ll be hanging out in Dolores Park, attending BBQ’s or watching fireworks; below are a few festive outfits you can wear to all of your Independence Day functions.

Complimenting colors: the new mani-pedi

I consider myself a bit of a nail polish junkie.  I paint my nails about two or three times a week and have about 25 different colors (I used to be a nail biter, and I found that keeping my nails looking pretty, stopped me from biting them).

Having that said, one of my pet peeves is matching colors on both the fingernails and toenails.  Your hands and feet are completely different, so why do people feel the need to have them painted the same color?

When I get a mani-pedi, I think of it like getting dressed.  We wear clothing that compliments different body parts, so why not have a nail color that compliments our hands and a color that compliments our feet.  And plus, it’s fun to play “color specialist” every once in a while!  Now it’s up to you to figure out which shades look best on your extremities.

Try out some of my favorite fingernail/toenail color combinations:

Coral and Nude

Deborah Lippmann $16

We’ve seen coral and nude colors all over the Spring/Summer 2011 runways, so it makes sense to see these colors on our fingernails and toenails.  Personally, I love a coral color for the toes (especially if you’re feet have even the slightest tan) and a nude/beige color for the fingernails.

Charcoal and Pastel

Butter London $14, Chanel $25

Pastels are very popular every Spring/Summer season.  Pairing pastels with masculine colors tends to toughen up the sweetness a bit.  I love a pastel color (such as robins egg blue or mint green) on the fingernails and charcoal on the toes.

Monochromatic

OPI $10

For those of you who get matching mani-pedi’s – monochromatic nail colors are just for you.  Instead of choosing the same color, opt for a lighter shade on the fingernails and a darker shade for the toes.

Black and White

Chanel $25, OPI $10

Classic.  I absolutely love white on the toes!  Paint your toes a shade of white and fingernails a shade of black, it creates a very modern look.

Did You Know?!? Sense Of Fashion

I was happy to learn about a new fashion ecommerce site called Sense Of Fashion. This site seems like the perfect place for Style Bust Readers to buy and sell clothing.

Here’s why:

Unlike any other ecommerce website, Sense of Fashion’s international marketplace combines online shopping and social media. Not only can shoppers sort through everything from apparel, shoes and jewelry to one-of-a-kind vintage pieces, but they can also discover emerging talent and then interact with their favorite designers through direct messaging as well as commenting on their favorite items. The store offers a wide selection of women’s apparel and accessories. They also sell a smaller collection of menswear.

Here are some of the pieces I’ve cherry picked from the site for you to take a look at!

Club Monaco: bohemian elegance

I’ve always thought of Club Monaco as a place to get your “high-end” basics (like your classic pencil skirt, tailored blazer or silk blouse).  I’ve never really thought of Club Monaco as being trendy or fashion forward – I’ve been wrong for so long.

I recently came across Club Monaco’s Fall 2011 lookbook, and I was pleasantly surprised.  Taking inspiration from the 50’s beatnik movement and style icons like Jane Asher and Edie Sedgwick, Club Monaco’s Fall 2011 collection is the perfect blend of modern bohemian style.

And if the Fall collection isn’t enough, Club Monaco has teamed up with Scosha & Co. and releasing a mix of delicately beaded bracelets, charm necklaces and oxidized silver rings.  All of the designs were inspired by the designers (Scosha Woolridge’s) many travels around the world.

MyLipCandy Couture Lip Balm

Recently I received lip balm samples from a new company called MyLipCandy and I was just blown away by them.

I sampled the Banana Pudding Sweet Tube and the Chocolate Mint Sassy Tin. The first thing I noticed is the absolutely yummy smell, which is something I personally miss from the children’s lip balms. But the advantage is that even though it smells great, it doesn’t have a taste so you’re not tempted to “eat” it and drying up your lips. The balm is long lasting and very moisturizing, just applying it feels so luxurious.

tamika_hallI wanted to know more about MyLipCandy so I interviewed the creator Tamika Hall. She’s a best-selling author of eight books, professional public speaker, she has her own radio show “Tough Talk with Tamika”, as well as a career as a model, pageant coach, actress and award winning playwright. She has several clothing lines and now creator of this awesome beauty product.

How did MyLipCandy get started?
I created MyLipCandy out of sheer desperation and out of desire!  Sounds, crazy, I know, but let me explain. (smile) I have always loved lipgloss and lip balm, and I knew that I wanted to create my own line one day; I’ll be honest, I never thought I would ever be able to actually craft it myself, but this has been one incredible ride.  I made my first batch of lip balm as a thank you gift for some dancers in a show I’d choreographed!! And when I made it, I knew that I wanted to use all natural products because of a painful experience i’d had with my own lips.
A few years ago, I went through a period of extremely chapped lips that lasted for about two years. My lips were so chapped and swollen that it hurt to smile or talk. A few times I even went to the doctor because I knew there just had to be something seriously wrong, only to be told that my lips were just severely chapped. I realized that I needed to use all natural products on my lips, but I didn’t want to give up my love for glossy lips.  When I finally found a lipgloss that seemed to heal my lips, I was disappointed with the fact that it had a  stinky smell. When I decided to pursue MyLipCandy as my dream business, I knew that the product had to smell good enough to eat!

Where did you learn how and what to mix to create MyLipCandy?

I did a lot of research on safe products to mix together, and have actually acquired some mentors along the way.  It is so important to me that my products be safe, healing, and fun to use.

When did you sell your first MyLipCandy? Do you remember who bought it?
MyLipCandy is relatively young…we are just 6 weeks old! I made my first sale the day I posted that we were open for business on Facebook back in April.  I screamed when I got my first sale, I called my husband and my mother screaming. I definitely remember the first person, I am so blessed that they have come back over and over again and now send their family and friends too.

What has been the reaction to MyLipCandy?
It has been INCREDIBLE!  I gave out my first batch to my dancers on April 16, It was their reaction to the product that made me stop and say “hmmm…this may be your dream lip line.” From there I have been getting rave reviews about the silky texture of our products and how they have helped to heal severely chapped lips throughout the United States and Canada.  We currently have 16 flavors and offer them in both a Sweet Tube or Sassy Tin, and we are getting ready to introduce our BALMalicious Lip Gloss in the next few days for those who need a little bling in their life – in a nutshell, we have something for everyone young and mature.

Where can we buy MyLipCandy?
MyLipCandy is available online at www.mylipcandy.com, and we have a growing number of retailers around the Country that are signing up everyday to offer it in their salons.

Which one is more popular, the tin or the tube?
Honestly, they run neck and neck.  The Sassy Tin is just that…it’s for the sassy woman who likes to dip her finger into the lip balm. Most women tell me that they feel sexy when they use the tin.  The Sweet Tube is for the woman who is still a Diva but would prefer not to use the tube.

I love the candy fragrance, how do you choose which one to produce?
I get a lot of suggestions from customers.  I actually just received a list from a little girl in Delaware who wanted to ‘suggest’ approximately fifty different flavors (laughing).  I love getting those letters and emails.  At the end of the day, I look at suggestions, but I have to feel comfortable with the flavors I produce.  I may actually work on a certain flavor for a week or more.  The flavors have to resonate with me, if I wouldn’t put it on my own lips, then it isn’t something I can offer to my customers.

Is there anything more you would like to add?
Thank you so much for this opportunity to tell the world about MyLipCandy! Also, if there are women who want to try some of our lip balm or salons, spas, or stores interested in carrying our brand, they can log onto www.mylipcandy.com or email [email protected] for more information.
