Honeycombs In Your Home

Hi there! I’m Jessica, a writer for Arcadian Lighting. Every day I get to discover beautiful, inspiring interior design ideas and light fixtures, and then get to share them with blogs like Style Bust.

I’m going to be sharing a wonderful design trend that first became popular in the 1960’s – honeycomb patterns! They’re fun, versatile, and classic. I hope you enjoy!

Honeycomb

These creative DIY honeycomb shaped shelves combine style with functionality. The geometric honeycomb shape is interesting and unique, while also providing cute little ‘nooks’ to display your favorite pieces of artwork, tchotchkes, knick knacks or photos.

Honeycomb

A colorful honeycomb patterned quilt gives this bedroom a fun, vintage feel. The quilt was made using old clothing – a perfect way to recycle what you already have, while making a colorful accent for your bedroom. The red floor lamp is just the right color for this room, as well.

Honeycomb

This very eclectic bedroom features a honeycomb mirror that’s offbeat and unexpected. I love all the quirky accents, especially the strange pillows.

Honeycomb

The neutral colored honeycomb backsplash in this kitchen is an interesting accent that draws on the ‘homey’ feeling of a beehive. I particularly like the modern touch of adding written words above the stove.

Honeycomb

This cool and contemporary living room features a whole wall of honeycomb patterns in a fresh grey and pale blue palette. Random ‘combs’ have clear glass panels, allowing a fun way to see through to the next room. The organic shaped pendant lights are a clever touch, as well.

Honeycomb

Honeycomb moulding is a particularly stylish and unexpected accent in any room. This ceiling adds a bit of texture and interest to what appears to be an all-white room.

Honeycomb

The colorful honeycomb pattern on this fabric headboard really brightens the room and adds a playful element to this fresh bedroom.

Honeycomb

This brilliant honeycomb mirror is mounted on a used pallet and placed over the mantel in a cozy little living room. The silver and amber-colored mirrors really create an eye-catching focal point.

Bonsoir Paris: The Duramen Wood Art Series

I don’t feature art very often on Style Bust, but I thought the wood sculptures series called “Duramen” (heartwood) by Bonsoir Pairs was worth sharing!

The creation of Bonsoir Paris, the “Duramen” series was born of a simple impulse, the one to break with conventional ways of exhibiting, BONSOIR PARIS and its team have imagined a series of frames so strongly mistreated that they have become unrecognizable. Their wish is to break the properties of the compound, a form of compromise as minimal and it is efficient.

The sculpture above is made of polished Oak and sanded Fir wood. The matte and the glossy make this abstract piece even more interesting to me. This piece is probably my favorite from the series.

Unlike the piece above this one, this piece doesn’t give the same look for glossy to matte wood finishes, leaving the look a little dull (in my opinion). I’m not bashing on the piece, I think what Bonsoir Paris has done for wood sculptures is brilliant, this is just my least favorite piece.

You can read more about the Duramen series on Behance. Visit Bonsoir Paris to get a full look at the photos and some behind the scenes “making of” photos as well!

A Residental Church

The former Saint Jakobus Church, in Utrecht, Netherlands is not what it seems to be from its exterior façade. Originally built in 1870 the church holds a lot of historical value.

The current owners hired Utrecht-based firm of ZECC Architects to transform the church into a home with great attention on space, functionality and light. With over 14,000 sq ft. the home has loads of natural light from all the stained-glass windows. What is most interesting is that it’s for sale.

Karl for Christmas

Looking for a small something for your fashion friends? Then the Karl Lagerfeld snow globe might take your fancy.

The snow globe has been created to go along with Lagerfeld’s capsule makeup collection that will be sold exclusively at Sephora (more details on his makeup line to come shortly). The snow globe features a quote from the designer.

Mon plus grand luxe est de n’avoir a me justifier aupres de personne.

For those of us who aren’t francophones, the quote translates to “My greatest luxury is never to have to justify myself too anyone.”

Review: So Low Sports Bra

The other week I bought the So Low Eclon Sports Bra with Mesh Inset from Swirl.com. I was very excited to get this cute sports bra at 80% off it’s typical $51.00 retail price. I wore it on a 4 mile run with Jessi yesterday and was a little disappointed. The seams in the front that separate the grey and black color blocks irritated my skin, causing slight chaffing (I know, ew). The bra is 90% nylon and 10% lycra, yet it wasn’t very breathable. In fact, on a cold SF day, like yesterday, the bra was soaked when I got home. There’s more, the most disappointing aspect of this So Low sports bra was the arm holes, they are too small, so the fabric was cutting into my armpits constantly. I run 20 miles a week, and have a drawer filled with sports bras of many different brands and I can safely say this one is my least favorite, as least for running. I wouldn’t recommend buying this bra (or this brand…I’ll get into other So Low products in future product reviews). This sports bra should work well (enough) for spinning, yoga or weightlifting where your arms aren’t in constant and repetitive motion while working out.

The Queen of all Chowders

Every true San Franciscan foodie will agree that come the middle of November we temporarily forget about our longing for roasted turkey and gravy hidden mashed potatoes to come our way in the near future. We instead strive to do nothing more than desperately attack the local sea food restaurants for a messy chow down with a hideously oversized bib and local Dungeness crab,  that is freshly caught at sea and brought back to the city on that cold and misty morning for one purpose only. However as many of us are aware, this city wide celebration was put on a two week halt when price disagreements between commercial fishermen and buyers, resulted in a strike that seemed to drag on forever. Sunday evening hoping to finally crack into one of the little beasts, I walked up the street to my favorite neighborhood raw live seafood eatery, Bar Crudo at 655 Divisadero Street. As I typically do, I sat at the bar and looked to the place where our exceptionally fresh crustacean friends usually reside, but not to my surprise found the spot vacant with slow melting ice. Even as a supporter of the fisherman cause and deep appreciation for the local seafood market, as a desperate mid November San Franciscan I could not help but feel disappointment. I got to thinking that like many strikes these days, it was certainly influenced by all of this current political occupy upheaval. I could not help but have a hilarious image come to me of my fellow city foodies and I running down to “occupy the sea”, and beg for a final consensus. With my solemn need for comfort food, I dove into what I thought might be the next best thing for me; Bar Crudo’s seafood chowder, and BOY WAS IT GOOD! This small cup of hearty yet creamy heaven is not like any chowder I have ever encountered. I could not believe the variety of sea food critters; halibut, mussels, squid, clams, and jumbo shrimp coming together in such a harmonious and delectable manner. The seafood cooked to perfection, swims around big chunks of red potatoes, apple wood smoked bacon and a decent sprinkle of white pepper to add a kick of spice. While experiencing this perfectly crafted cup of pungent perfection, I forgot all about the lack of crab in the city, Bar Crudo making my visit worthwhile as always. I highly recommend washing this heart attack in a cup down with a crisp cold glass of one of their well selected glasses of Ugni Blanc. Brace yourself for this chowder readers!  One little cup goes a long way; there is a reason they don’t offer a bowl of it on their menu!
