Today’s Playlist

Please have a listen to the playlist I’ve been listening to today, and most of October 2011.

My Top 3 SF Fashion Designers

Day 16 of the 30 Day Blogging Challenge is about my Top 3 SF Fashion Designers.

This one is tricky because even though I support a lot of local designers by going to their fashion shows and covering the on this website, I still own few garments designed by SF designers.

image of kajan padraig logoI’m a huge fan of Kajan Padraig. Cake Carlos and Patrick Steber make up the design duo behind the label. The team met while working under Lily Samii.  Not only are their pieces gorgeous, and perfect for every type of event –  I also really like their label even more because I know the designers behind the label and really like them. Here’s an interview I did with them earlier this year.

Bacca Da Silva is another local favorite for womenswear – he also does menswear, but I can’t remember if I’ve ever seen it or not. His designs are very cutting edge for SF, he incorporates great prints (in large-scale) and right colors. I think everything Bacca made for his Spring 2012 collection I would love to wear.

I was introduced to Alyssa Nicole and her line during San Francisco Fashion Week 2010 (here’s a link to my review of her collection shown at Fashion Week). She really knows how to make flattering, reasonably priced pieces.

My Celebrity Crushes

Day 12 of the 30-day Blogging Challenge asks that I share my celebrity crushes.

Regular readers my remember an earlier post I wrote about my main celebrity crush, Joseph Gordon-Levitt. He will continue to be my main celebrity crush. Everything about him is just dreamy. He’s a great actor, he’s directed a short film that was selected for the Sundance Film Festival in  2009. He runs hitRECord.org, an online collaborative production company that shares its profits with contributing artists. He just sounds like a cool guy, doesn’t he?

My other main actor musician crush is Jason Schwartzman. He first won my heart in Rushmore in 1998. I think I’ve liked everything he’s been in, including Phantom Planet and Coconut Records.

I guess I have a thing for smaller, dark haired dudes…maybe it’s becuase I’m so blonde.

Something I Ate Today

I ended my day with one of my favorite desserts, homemade Pecan, Caramel & Fudge Pie (it’s delicious with ice cream).

I made this pie on Sunday since we were having a dinner guest. Note: I dislike cooking & baking…sad I know, but I get absolutely no pleasure in the kitchen. The only time I really attempt to make tasty food is when we have guests over. So in hopes of getting better at this domesticated eating style, I’ll be inviting more friends over for dinner to gain the skills and maybe force myself into liking this whole homemaker lifestyle.

This Pecan, Caramel & Fudge Pie is super easy to make (I buy the crust rather than make it myself). You can find the recipe here on Epicurious.

A Book I Love

Day 10 of the 30 Day Lifestyle Blogging Challenge is about a book that I love.

I read Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen during my honeymoon last month. It was a fun and easy beach read about a man named Jacob Jankowski, and his experience with the circus. I can’t remember the last time I read novel so quickly, you must go get it! Also, I just learned that there is a movie out based on the book starring Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson…I’ll have to add this to my Netflix queue!

Another book I read this year that I absolutely loved was Patti Smith’s Just Kids, which I covered in 10 Books To Add To Your Reading List back in January.  This book was also hard to put down because the story of Robert Mapplethorpe and Patti Smith’s life together is so compelling. They were out rubbing shoulders with the next ‘it’ group of artists, musicians and actors during the 60’s and 70’s.

My Weekly Rituals

Day 9 of the 30 Day Lifestyle Blogging Challenge is about my weekly rituals. Aside from doing laundry on the weekends, working out at least 4 times a week and bringing lunch to work at least once a week, my rituals are pretty minimal.

I guess I have to admit I usually have at least 4 online shopping carts going at a time – so this is a bit of a ritual as I can’t imagine life without these open carts. They’re usually on Urban Outfitters, J.Crew, Amazon, Beauty.com and Running Warehouse. Usually once a week I will push one of the carts through to an order, so I have a constant influx of weekly deliveries of clothing and accessories.

Today I received my order from last week, Gap was having a 30% off Sale Items Sale…and I just can’t resist a good bargain. Tyler just shakes his head in disgust. Luckily, we’ve decided that even though we’re married we don’t need to share bank accounts. This has worked out extremely well for me because I can just throw out random amounts each package is worth, and he’ll never know!

Favorite Band For The Moment: tUnE-yArDs

Day seven of my 30 Day Lifestyle Blogging Challenge is about my favorite band of the moment.  This one is tricky because I have so many short term obsessions when it comes to music. Hands down, I have to say that the best band I’ve listened to in weeks is tUnE-yArDs out of Oakland, CA. The band is the music project ofMerrill Garbus. I haven’t seen the live show yet, but when performing live, Garbus creates drum loops on the spot, and layers these with ukulele, voice, and electric bass.

The second tUnE-yArDs album, w h o k i l l, was released on April 19, 2011 (2 days after my birthday)

A single from it, “Bizness”, came out in February 2011. It was produced by Garbus and engineered by Eli Crews at New, Improved Studios in Oakland, California. Check out the music video here:

Check out this live performance of Gangsta live on KEXP.

Greatest Accomplishment Today

Day six of my 30 Day Lifestyle Blogging Challenge is about my greatest accomplishment of the day. I was feeling a bit sluggish and disappointed in myself today. At work new projects keep piling up and I feel like I won’t get ahead of the workflow until Holiday is over, and I really hate not being on top of my business because I’m playing catch up on random side projects.

SO – I have to say that my greatest accomplishment today was my five-mile run. I’ve run five miles a day for about a week now. I’m really trying to get my time down (I’m a very slow runner). Today I finally came in at a decent time and that made me feel great. Hopefully I can keep making progress and move onto more mileage early next week (I’m running a half marathon 11/6 – and I’m extremely behind on my running program).

Here’s the outfit that got me through my greatest accomplishment of the day.
