Style meets the home
As we all know, fashion is all about trends. As much as I love to see certain trends and styles – you’ll rarely see me wearing something in “tangerine tango” or floral print pants – I love my basic v neck t’s and skinny jeans too much!
Having that said, I believe that your home truly represents who you are and ultimately … your style (or maybe it’s my obsession with Pinterest that has got me on this home decor kick). While browsing some of my favorite home decor sites and bookmarking my favorite styles – I realized that I am naturally drawn to clean lines, rustic accents, vintage furniture and pops of bold color for the home.

Although my home looks nothing like any of these photos, I’m hoping that once I move out of my one bedroom apartment, I can start fresh and find special and unique furniture that suits my style.

“SF. LIT UP” A Collection by Ryan Vicente
Hey everyone, make sure you mark your calendars for Ryan Vicente’s first solo show! It will be taking place at D-Structure shop/gallery in lower Haight this Friday!
As you have seen (from my old post) Ryan is known for his iconic screen prints. This show is in full spirit of famous San Francisco street signs as well as land marks that everyone will recognize! Ryan has been pouring his heart, soul, and countess all nighters to pull this phenomenal series together, so try to make your way down for a fun night of music, art, and a true San Francisco experience!
The show opens April 20th at 8pm, so be sure to stop by enjoy great art and complementary drinks!
Anti-Aging Serums
Anti-aging serums are a great way to help your skin look and feel better. Serums are meant to be used in combination with moisturizers, a serum is specifically designed to give you a concentrated dose of anti-aging ingredients.

Accessorizing made easy
Headbands have never verged too far from the fashion scene, but this Spring, headbands are making a comeback in a sophisticated way – as both statement pieces and barely-there hair accessories.
For someone (like myself) who tends to dress fairly basic on a daily basis, a headband might be the perfect accessory to add some personality to those everyday basics.

This Spring you’ll be sure to find a headband that suits your style. I checked out Etsy for some headband inspiration – here are a few of my favorite headband styles for Spring 2012:
1. Jersey stretch headbands (twist in the middle for a trendy turban inspired headband) – for a low key / downtown chic look.
2. Ultra thin vintage headbands in a neutral tone – when you want just a touch of glam.
3. Slim headbands that lay flat against the head (anything chunky might be a little overpowering) – very retro looking and perfect for pixie cuts.
4. Statement headbands – fun and festive, but probably not for everyday.
Steps for Straight and Shiny Hair
Even though I love Spring showers, the humidity always does a number on my frizzy semi-wavy hair, so when I want a straight style regardless of the weather these are the products I use:
Shampoo / Conditioner
The ones that I use depend on the weather, when the humidity is low and I know I won’t have frizz problems I use Pantene Straightening Shampoo and Conditioner.
Now when I need the big guns I go with Living Proof Frizz, this is one of my favorite brands!
Styling Products
Once my hair is dry and ready to be styled the only product I use is Living Proof Frizz Styling Cream, it’s fantastic! I love the scent, it does not weigh the hair down and performance is enhanced by heat styling.
To style my hair I use a ceramic straightener, but my wish list contains ghd stylers. Gotta break the piggy bank for that one!
Once it’s straight I give it a little shine with Paul Mitchell’s Super Skinny Serum, this is one of those products I’ve used for the last decade.
Finally I use a tad bit of Anti-Frizz hairspray especially on the crown since I end up with a few fly-aways. I’ve tried different brands but the one I keep going back to is Garnier Fructis Anti-Humidity Spray.
My hair will stay straight and shiny for the next 2 – 3 days in spite of the weather! When I sleep I use a bandana to keep it from tangling and I may pass the styler through my hair just to keep the look. And that’s it!
American Idol Top 7
The top 7 took on songs from 2010 and on. The mentor is Akon. I guess it was enough that he has released some songs in this decade to make him relevant to be on American Idol. But come on this guy doesn’t even have an official website, not to mention none of his music is even comparable to any of the artist on idol. I had my reservations about him as the mentor, it wasn’t as bad as what I had anticipated but I guarantee many people watching thought to themselves, who the heck is Akon?
Skylar Laine – Skylar opened the show with Kellie Pickler’s ‘Don’t Know How Much I Love You’. I thought this was boring and predictable. Not worthy of kick starting the show. She will probably stick around though because who else will the huge AI country fan base vote for? She’s all that’s left for them. She’s certainly good at what she does, but I don’t know if that’s enough for me.
Colton Dixon – ‘Love The Way You Lie’ was made popular by Eminem and Rihanna. He performed Skylar Grey’s original version. My wonderful AI companion that suffers through the show with me week after week is really tired of Colton and what he calls his “vapor voice.” I think when Colton actually tries to sing it sounds even worse. I cannot seem to figure out what people see in him. I thought his performance was aesthetically pleasing. But at the end of the day, what is making this kid stand out? I’m not sure.
Jessica Sanchez – This was one of my favorite performances of the night. I’ve had the amazing opportunity to see Jazmine Sullivan live and she is incredible. I must say ‘Stuttering’ is no small feat and Jessica did a phenomenal job with it. I almost preferred Jessica’s version. She told a story and there was so much beauty & grace in this performance. I got a little lost in it. It’s hard to believe that Jessica is only 16 years old and singing like that.
Joshua Ledet – Here we go again, this week I’m going to complain about Joshua and how he is a runner up to someone else that performed the same song. This time however I’m going to compare him to the actual artist, which maybe isn’t fair but we just saw Bruno Mars slay ‘Runaway Baby’ at the Grammy’s a few weeks ago and absolutely nothing can compare to that performance. Bruno is so big right now and to cover him it needs to be something extremely special & fresh. Bruno Mars is hands down one of the best performers of this era, his stage presence is out of this world… Joshua doesn’t have that yet, he didn’t even touch Bruno as far as I’m concerned.
Hollie Cavanagh – Oh Hollie, you were much less than ‘Perfect’ covering Pink. Why can’t someone help you? There are so many mentors and people behind the scenes on this show, can’t they give you a shove in the right direction? Everything from the way she dresses to her song choices are just wrong. It’s so frustrating because I know she has the biggest voice in the competition but she is completely unmarketable right now. There is no way she’s escaping the bottom 3 this week and I won’t be surprised if she is sent packing.
Phillip Phillips – Ok so Maroon 5 is so big right now & Adam Levine is entirely relevant, I thought there was no way this could go wrong. This could have been epic but does anyone know the song ‘Give A Little More’? A weird part of me would have rather seen him do “Moves Like Jagger.” Anyway back to his performance, what Phillip did with the arrangement was actually very compelling and good, but I’m assuming most people have never heard the original so it’s not something that’s going to impress the general audience. I’m not going to disagree with any of the judges critiques. My only problem is with all this comparison to Colton, why is it that no one has mentioned that every week Colton is sounding the same as well? We will see if the judges comments influence the votes for Phillip. It actually won’t be such a bad thing if Phillip falls into the bottom three this week, I think he needs a little jolt, something to kick him into gear.
Elise Testone – I’m going to have a love/hate relationship with Elise just about every week I think. I hate that she did this song. I’m biased and love Haley, so I had my mind set before the song started that this would not be ok for me. However, she fell into this song perfectly and looked very comfortable on stage. Maybe this is the direction she’s trying to go and I’m ok with that. But this performance was not a huge moment for me. Last year Haley performed it before it was even released, and was virtually heard by no one before she brought it to the Idol stage. Haley did so good that when Gaga released it, I never acknowledged it as even a Gaga song. Haley’s voice always fit better in my opinion. I’m not going to completely disregard Elise’s performance. At this stage of the game it was smart and will probably push her through to another week.
Must see performances this week are Jessica and Elise. I’m struggling with my bottom three prediction because what I feel should be the bottom three is quite different than how I think the votes are actually going to fall. But the weakest performers this week were Hollie, Skylar, & Colton. On another note, how cool was it to hear a Gotye song on Idol? If you ever get the opportunity, this is a show you have to see live. He has a few dates in California over the next two weeks so check out the dates and try to get to one if you can!
Shopping list for Spring
Having enjoyed a little sunshine over the weekend, I’m feeling quite inspired to lighten-up my look and dive into some of my favorite Springtime colors and styles.
1. Add a twist to your basic earrings with these faceted studs from Wolf & Badger.
2. Pair slim leg denim in a dusty hue with a classic v-neck for a casual look. Or wear with a silk blouse and heels for a dressed up evening look.
3. Try a lipstain in a berry color this Spring like Tarte Lipsurgence – berry hues look great on all skin types.
4. Nothing says Spring more than a great pair of sunglasses. Round shades in a pale color are the perfect accessory for Spring.
5. Zara’s leather shopper – a great bag for those lazy days at the park but chic enough to carry to the office.
6. Falling in Love Summer – the perfect scent to get you ready for those warmer days.
7. Classic gold jewelry creates a minimal but on-trend look, especially when paired with pastels.
8. Lace-up ankle boots in muted leather are very versatile for Spring. Pair with pastel skinny denim or a floral frock.
Weekend Getaway Beauty & Personal Care Essentials
If you’re like me, you always forget one or two essential beauty or personal care items whenever you go out of town. It’s something I’ve gotten used to; and so has my husband, who frequently has to drive me to a drug store to pick up whatever I’ve forgotten. As I’m getting geared up for a few weekend trips in April I’ve decided to share my must have items for weekend getaways.

1. Supergoop! SPF 30+ Everyday Lotion ($22) is moisturizing, paraben-free, and water and sweat resistant. The 3oz tube is enough to last you over a month, and will keep your skin soft, moisturized, hydrated, and protected from harmful UV rays.
2. No matter where you’re travelling, powder is essential. I always pack my Powder FX Mineral Powder Foundation by Cover FX ($35). It’s enriched with oil absorbing qualities which does the trick in all sorts of climates.
3. Cargo Bronzer ($29) comes in a variety of natural looking colors with slight iridescence. While travelling I use this bronzer for my cheeks and eyes, and avoid packing eye shadows altogether.
4. Cenoire Eluo Sonic Toothbrush ($29) is a great travel electric toothbrush at an affordable price. I take this toothbrush with me everywhere in case I’m in need of a quick clean.
5. Maybelline New York Full ‘N Soft Waterproof Mascara ($6) is a perfect lash enhancing essential. Whether you’re in humid weather, out in the cold, or playing in water all day, your mascara should stay put!
6. Dry shampoo is a part of my regular routine. I use it every other day (yes, I naturally have really greasy hair). I love to take Clean Dry Shampoo ($18) with me on vacations because I never know how many days will pass without hair washing. The best thing about Clean brand is it’s perfectly sized for airplanes at 2.9 oz.
7. For a quick, yet thorough face cleanse I go for Ole Henriksen Truth To Go Cleansing Wipes (pack of 30 wipes for $15). Cleansing wipes are the easiest way to remove dirt, grime and makeup on the go.
8. Don’t forget your tweezers, you never know when an unwanted hair will appear. I bring my Tweezerman Slant Tweezer ($22) on every trip. I don’t actually use the tweezers that often while on vacation, but the few times I have needed to tweeze, I was relieved my tweezer was packed.
9. Coach Poppy & Poppy Flower Rollerball Duo ($22) is perfect for travelling, especially if you like to alternate scents based on your mood. The duo roller offer two fun fragrances at an affordable price point.
10. Sally Hansen Color Quick Nail Pen ($8). Sally Hansen color pens come in a handful of basic colors, work well, and are affordable. When applied, the color dries quickly and there’s no mess! What more could you ask for. If you’re looking to splurge on a high-end nail pen, opt for Yves Saint Laurent’s Nail Lacquer Pen Brush ($26).
