Khaki, Infantry and the Desert Look: Colors, Combos and Advice

The military look first appeared as a fashion statement during the Gulf War. In support of troops, guys started wearing camo everything; from underwear to t-shirts, the world was awash with the look of camo. It took (of course) the women to show them how it’s done, and today the infantry look has expanded into an array of styles, colors and designs.

In the last few years, the khaki jacket has become a mainstay for the celebrity to grab-and-go out. But, not everyone seems to have it down when it comes to how to wear the jacket. If worn with the wrong top, it can look frumpy. But if worn a bit oversized, with the right top, it can fit the bill.

Matching the right colors for the military fashion statement is fairly easy. Start with one piece that will be the main focus, or anchor piece. This is typically the most vibrant pattern in dark or light tones of khaki or green. Add the other pieces in neutral tones of champagne, white, black or even gray. The real appeal about infantry styling is that you can mix and match some of the hottest colors like cinnamon or poppy red and they will be your anchor piece.

Express Your Inner You with Your Perfect Tank Top Colors

It’s hard to say when the tank top became an actual single item to wear as a wardrobe choice. Maybe it was part of the beachwear explosion or influenced by the Madonna era. But slowly, the tank top is the choice of almost everyone and represents summer fun and excitement.

The tank has become an essential commodity. With its incredible flexibility of wearing alone or in layers, it has evolved from the lowly top into a complete wardrobe must have. Tanks today are in so many colors and styles that they are compared to the evolution of the t-shirt.

The shades and tones that are the hottest for this year start out with the pastels and girly-girl looks. These are fantastic as stand alone wear or can be worn with your favorite bikini. But the story doesn’t stop there, the tank has been elevated into a total look with the newest hot colors. Summer brings greens, pale yellows, apricots, persimmon, blues and purples. Color combinations of reds and cinnamon are for the adventurous, but there is also a natural girl look that includes neutral tones and the desert colors of khaki, tan, brown, off-white and champagne.

The Fav Jumpsuit: Colors, Looks and Styles

There is a perfect jumpsuit for every look and today’s colors bring a selection from the demure to the outrageous. With summer comes the shorter appeal for every day, and evening brings the sultry style with strapless creations that show off the tan.

The jumpsuit was catapulted into popularity in the sixties with the famous British television show, The Avengers. The incredible wit, charm and intellect of Mrs. Emma Peal, brought the show to the forefront. Her incredible array of jumpsuits made it easy for her to take out the bad guys with her martial arts agility. Thanks to that show, the jumpsuit has evolved over the years, from the tight outfit Mrs. Peal wore to the parachute styles in the seventies and eventually to the array of colors and cuts that are available today.

This year we are seeing a lot of desert shades, tans, browns, gray and neutrals as a base color for the jumpsuit. There is also an array of color blends that are showing up in patterns and prints, that include the shades of blue combined with varying purple tones. The colors of nature are an easy choice for the jumpsuit, as you can add so many exotic and Native American jewelry accents. The look can change from a day shopping to an evening get together in a snap.

New Time, New Era, New Colors

We are in the middle of a technology explosion that is supposed to have made our lives easier. While we hurry to read and text, respond to emails and keep up with our bff’s, there seems to be a lot of confusion about identity. Fashion and colors are a perfect example of this confusion as we add new colors to our wardrobe palette that combine the tech with a desire to return to nature.

Our world is becoming very ecology savvy and this brings a new attitude in what and how we wear fashion. The infusion of khaki, greens and neutral tones bring a level of sanity to our existence, while we are inspired by the bursts of rich blues and purples that entice the senses. The wildly bold take a leap into the crimson, cinnamon and tomato tones and we don’t even realize that these are all colors of the natural world. We are being driven by technology but our inner selves are demanding natural beauty which means new colors.

The shades of blue are being seen more and more, as we adapt to the calming influence of that tone. Pastels, sea blue, turquoise, dark regal blue: all are appearing in outfits and on the runways. Easy to wear denim in all of its forms are being taken to another level with variations on a more natural and carefree look. Some wear it well in its simplest form, but others seem to express their confusion with just a bit too much. Alas, the beauty of denim is lost in the maze of color and mess.

Summer is for Shorts; the Shorter the Better

Is there anything better than cut off shorts? They are a statement, a feeling, playful and fun. Cut off shorts take denim into the world of the sensual, while giving us an easy way to enjoy. Of course you have to take your body shape into consideration when choosing the right cut-offs, and sometimes, even the celebrities get it wrong.

Fashion designers have taken the topic of cut off shorts to a whole new level of intrigue. The simple cut offs have been changed, dyed, altered, embellished and shredded. You can wear them very short with pocket exposure or sans the pockets for a cleaner shorter look. Sometimes cut off shorts should be simply left alone with a nice top. The feeling that we just have to keep adding to a look (and adding…and adding) can create a flat out disaster. But when you do it the right way, you are the city chic uptown girl.

For the next two years, anticipate seeing cut off shorts as the highlight of both spring and summer. Denim is being shown in pastels, scalloped faux leather, lace, silk, tie dyes and studs. Whatever mood you are in, there is a pair of shorts that will be a perfect fit. The most popular seems to be the beach look . Based on a concept of simplicity, the cut off shorts, paired with a summer tank top and a hat is probably as sexy as it gets.

The latest trend for this year seems to be the candy colored shorts, in sizzling colors like bubblegum and daisy yellow, paired with a wide belt. This is a great combination and even a boho top looks fab with the bright colors.

Colors: the Do’s and Don’ts and How to Wear

Color is part of our world, and each one of us has not only a personal favorite color, but a palette of colors that we look best in. This does not mean that these two choices are always the same and they can actually clash terribly. Color can be a reflection of a mood, a moment, a fad and a time and which color we select can be an important topic.
Colors
The lives of celebrities seem to dictate what colors are right to wear (and not) and doesn’t seem to deter people (including celebrities) even when the colors and patterns are poorly chosen. The colors and shades of blue are here to stay, in variations that require almost a palette of their own. Ocean blue, deep rich navy blue and pale pastels are currently incredibly hot and designers are taking that into the next year. But there is such a thing as too-much-blue. Choosing a very boho dress in shades of blue, then adding more blue for shoes and even more blue for a matching headband is going overboard. Now don’t get me wrong, with some shades, especially pastel solids, this can be accomplished to bring a fresh airy look and feel.

Fresh Sugar Lip Polish

I like to take care of my lips by using lip balms, not biting them and using lipsticks and lip glosses that won’t dry them out. And even with all that care, my lips sometimes feel dry and flaky, especially in the winter time. I’ve tried a few exfoliating products in the market and have even tried to make my own using natural ingredients, but the results haven’t been impressive.

I received a sample of Fresh Sugar Lip Polish and it does exactly what it says on the pot, “Gently exfoliates and conditions“.

This unique formula is enriched with real brown sugar crystals to gently buff away dry flakes. It nourishes the lips with the oils of meadowfoam seed, jojoba seed, and grapeseed while shea butter provides long-lasting moisture.

The brown sugar crystals are a tad bit rougher than most of the exfoliants I’ve use before, but at the same time it does not hurt my lips. I can immediately taste the brown sugar in the formula and after I rinse it off my lips are soft and moisturized, though I follow the treatment with a lip balm.

The cost is $22.50 for a 0.6 oz pot at Sephora.com, but a little goes on a long way. The sample I received is 0.28 oz and I’ve used it twice a week for the last month and the pot is still full! Love this product!

In case you’re wondering about my nails, I’m wearing Piccadilly, Fishnet Magnetic Polish by Nails, Inc. I gave it another try and still don’t like the results of the magnet.

Ciate Sequined Manicure Kit Review

So far I’m a big fan of Ciate and their kits, the designs are very unique and in the vanguard of the nail art scene. Now they bring us Ciate Sequined Manicure Kit, a super flashy design.

Ciate Sequined Manicure Kit

The concept is very simple. Use the Sequin Glitter Grip polish and dip your nail on the pot full of sequins and your nails will look like Disco Balls! This manicure is perfect for a night out, the nails truly shine and glitter. During the day they tend to be a little much.

What I did was add a silvery nail polish as a background color and on top of it used the Sequin Glitter Grip and the sequins. This way as the glitter snagged and fell off it wouldn’t be too noticeable. I used this manicure for a concert, my hands were in and out pockets, using my camera, getting things from my purse, etc. Overall I think they held well for one night.

Both picture show my nails the morning after, I was in such a hurry the night before I forgot to take a photo of the manicure when it was fresh. But you can get an idea of how it looks.

When it was time to take off the nail polish, I was worried it would be difficult like it is with most glitter nail polish, but it wasn’t. The sequins came right off with regular nail polish removal and I then I added a polish more suitable for the work week.
