Selective Lifestyle Trends
To anyone studying or working in home decor, learning about trends in interior decorating is one of the most exciting parts of life. And it should be, aside from work, the home is where we spend the bulk of our time, and like clothing it needs to be a reflection of us. FOX Pilots: New FOX TV Shows For Fall 2012
Summer just began, but I’m already looking ahead to Fall TV series. FOX has announced new programming. Here are brief synopses of three brand new shows you’ll be seeing on FOX later this year.
BEN AND KATE. What happens when an exuberant, irresponsible dreamer who always says “yes” moves in with his overly responsible little sister to help raise her five-year-old daughter? The new single-camera comedy follows the siblings as they push each other out of their comfort zones and into real life. Kate Fox (Dakota Johnson, “The Social Network”) followed the rules all her life…until she got pregnant in college and dropped out just shy of graduation. After the birth of her daughter, Maddie, Kate put her twenties on hold. Now working as a bar manager to make ends meet and maximize her time with five-year-old, she’s uber-prepared for every possible catastrophe – except for the arrival of her older brother, Ben Fox (Nat Faxon, “Bad Teacher”). Ben likes trouble. He’ll screw up your life, but somehow, you’ll feel good about it. Where Kate is all about planning and preparing, Ben is big on spontaneity and out-of-the-box ideas. When Ben comes to crash on Kate’s couch for a few days, he finds a sad state of affairs. Kate’s surviving, but not living.
THE MINDY PROJECT. THE MINDY PROJECT is a new single-camera comedy from Emmy Award-nominated writer/producer and New York Times best-selling author Mindy Kaling (“The Office”). The series follows a woman who, despite having a successful career (as an OB/GYN), desperately needs to break bad habits in her personal life. After all, how many doctors make inappropriate toasts at their ex-boyfriend’s wedding, nearly drown at the bottom of a stranger’s pool and get arrested for disorderly conduct just moments before having to deliver a baby. Mindy Lahiri is determined to be more punctual, spend less money, lose weight and read more books – all in pursuit of becoming a well-rounded perfect woman.
THE MOB DOCTOR. For most physicians, the Hippocratic oath is sacred. But for one Chicago doctor, who is indebted to the mafia, saving lives isn’t her only concern. This series is a medical drama featuring a young female cardiothoracic surgeon who is split between two distinct worlds as she juggles her promising medical career with her lifelong debt as a doctor to Chicago’s Southside mob. Dr. Devlin (Jordana Spiro, “My Boys”) is a top resident at Roosevelt Medical Center. Smart and self-assured, she’s heralded as one of the country’s most promising young surgeons. But family ties keep her glued to her Southside roots. To pay off her brother’s life-threatening gambling debt, she makes a deal with the devil and agrees to work “off book” for the mafia men she once despised.
I’m also looking for the return of some of the best shows FOX has to offer. NEW GIRL and BOB’S BURGERS are two shows I’m particularly interested in watching in the Fall. It’s so cool that FOX is selling an assortment of fan favorite shirts and merchandise from each show. Check out the merchandise here: NEW GIRL, BOB’S BURGERS. You can catch up on complete seasons of hit FOX series buy purchasing DVDs and Blu-rays at the official FOX Shop.

CBS Pilots: New CBS Shows For Fall 2012
It’s no surprise that CBS didn’t renew a couple of shows for another season. Lucky for people like me, who are looking for some new programming — the network is lining up it’s new series. Checkout the brand new shows you’ll be seeing on CBS this Fall.
New Comedies
- Friend Me: This comedy stars Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Nicholas Braun as best friends who move to LA to work at Groupon and struggle to be social when one would rather stay at home. Mintz-Plasse is good in everything he does, from Superbad to Kick-Ass, and Role Models to How to Trian Your Dragon. I’m excited to tune into Friend Me just to see what he can bring to a TV Series.
- Partners: Michael Urie and David Krumholtz play a pair of architects whose friendship has outlasted all their romantic relationships. Sophia Bush an
d Brandon Routh also appear.
New Drama
- Elementary: This take on Sherlock Holmes is set in present-day Brooklyn and stars Jonny Lee Miller in the Sherlock role, with the added twist of Lucy Liuas his colleague Watson.
- Vegas: Dennis Quaid and Michael Chiklis star in this 1960s-era drama about a rodeo cowboy (Quaid) who becomes the sheriff of the city.
- Made in Jersey: A street-smart woman (Janet Montgomery) tries to prove herself to her colleagues at a New York law firm in this drama, which also costars Kyle MacLachlan.
- Golden Boy: This cop drama follows the rise of a man (Theo James) as he climbs the ranks from office to detective to police commissioner.
CBS Cancellations
- CSI Miami: I’m going to miss Horatio Caine. For those of you who aren’t caught up on the series (which is perfect for watching on long flights), you can pick up season DVDs at the CBS Store.
- A Gifted Man
- How To Be A Gentleman
- NYC 22
- Rob
- Unforgettable
Ikea Photoshoot by Carl Kleiners
I first wrote about Carl Kleiner’s last year when he released the best food styled cookbook. He just did a new shoot for IKEA. This shoot reworks the Ikea’s new kitchen range into intricate patterns. Pretty cool!
Wood Adds A Contemporary Twist
When it comes to home decor, wood is in the spotlight this year. Not only is it being used for furniture and cabinetry; designers are incorporating wood details into wall panels, and home interiors. The use of wood creates great accents and textures in the home. Coupled with the eco-friendly movement, the design world has embraced natural wood with much enthusiasm. And it appears consumers are just as enthusiastic about this new trend!
Let’s start with decor: layering wood textures and accents ties the indoors to the outdoors. Additionally it’s an easy (and inexpensive) way to enhance your interiors with nature’s own sculptures. You can add “found” branches to floor vases and driftwood to tabletops. Eco design embraces the beauty that exists in wood and places its character on display in the form of home decor.

We can’t forget about how glamorous wood furniture can look. When I think of furniture, I think of dining tables — but wood can be used to make many amazing pieces beyond the dining room. On top of that, wood furniture can take any shape and can be simple, modern, ornate, or vintage looking. Wood furniture tends to be better on the environment, it is incredibly durable and will outlast furniture made of other materials by years. Looking for some great basic pieces for your home? Try this oak here from the furniture market.
Here are a few favorites found online that will bring the trend of natural wood into your home too.

Shades of Gray
Foggy, overcast, San Francisco springtime skies are my inspiration for all things gray.
Style meets the home
As we all know, fashion is all about trends. As much as I love to see certain trends and styles – you’ll rarely see me wearing something in “tangerine tango” or floral print pants – I love my basic v neck t’s and skinny jeans too much!
Having that said, I believe that your home truly represents who you are and ultimately … your style (or maybe it’s my obsession with Pinterest that has got me on this home decor kick). While browsing some of my favorite home decor sites and bookmarking my favorite styles – I realized that I am naturally drawn to clean lines, rustic accents, vintage furniture and pops of bold color for the home.

Although my home looks nothing like any of these photos, I’m hoping that once I move out of my one bedroom apartment, I can start fresh and find special and unique furniture that suits my style.

Retro Decor For Your Home
Creating a Hollywood Glamour / Mad Men Era / Retro home environment is a great way to add excitement to your home thanks to the bright colors, engaging patterns and the funky feel that are pertinent to the style of the 1960’s. Don’t be shy, show your nostalgia for one of they greatest decades…here are some ideas for how you can get the retro look at home.
Incorporate curved period style furniture into your home. Curved upholstery in bold colors or geographic prints fit right into the 1960’s period design scheme. A curved headboard is a great way to accomplish the 60’s vibe. This bedroom is made complete with the graphic print bedding, side chairs, graphic artworks and honeycomb decorative details.
Add feature furniture to your living room. Buy a retro sofa and side chair that are so brilliant they deserve to be the center of attention. Play down all surrounding decor and furnishing to help ‘feature’ the furniture. Keep walls and rugs neutral in color to complete the look.
Paint walls with bold stripes, creating a two-tone effect using one dramatic hue for pure impact (black and white is solid choice). Finish the look by adding statement decor, and solid color furniture.
Mix and match patterns to successfully complete the vintage family room scheme. Make sure the mix and match color palette is complementary. Geographic prints should be mixed with other graphic prints, stripes and solid colors. While florals should be mixed with other florals, stripes and solids.
Choose large scale floral prints for your walls and fabric. The floral wallpaper effect is best pulled off on high-ceiling rooms because they have more space to display the pattern. Keep color palettes simple in rooms with colorful floral prints.
Give your wall a 3D effect with textured wallpapers. Textures create the perfect amount of stylishness without looking over done. This is my favorite look from the 60’s. Someday my house will be covered with textured walls (and hopefully leather walls).
Incorporate a statement chandelier for the ultimate Hollywood glamour lighting.
