Moisturizers: Sephora and Dior

We all want to maintain a youthful look, right?? Then the best way to prevent premature fine lines is to start moisturizing your skin no matter how young you are and maintain the routine of cleansing, toning and moisturizing on a daily basis. With the exception of those nights one comes back too tipsy to care or remember.

Recently I’ve tried several moisturizing samples and these two have greatly impressed me.

Sephora’s Super Supreme Body Butter

Oh my goodness! The packaging mentions “lusty pleasure” and it is! The texture is very thick and silky and smooth, it gets absorbed by the skin almost immediately and leaves your body feeling and looking hydrated all day. It really is amazing!

Dior’s Skin Perfect Pore Refining Perfecting Moisturizer

I’ll be honest, this is a product I’ll probably not be buying because of the cost ($65 for 1.7 ounces), but it was so good to use the sample. It has a light clean smell, the consistency is silky and it left my face feeling so soft.

Of course, these moisturizers worked incredibly well on my skin, but every skin needs are different always ask for samples and try as many as you can before you select the one that makes your skin feel special!

American Idol Alum Music News

Every week I have Tuesdays & Wednesdays off of work and it is always my intention to come up with blog ideas and write something for my favorite Style Bust readers.  It is now Thursday afternoon, I go into work in a couple hours and I am just opening up my computer now to share some thoughts, talk about procrastination.  I need to post something so I can feel as though my days off were used productively.  The American Idol alums have been busy lately, so I thought I would appease my AI blog followers who are having withdrawals from the competition.

Unless you have been living under a rock you are aware that Breaking Dawn (Part 1), the latest of the Twilight series premieres tonight at midnight.  In light of that I’m going to somewhat reluctantly share this track with you.  The newlyweds Paul McDonald and Nikki Reed recorded this song, “Now That I’ve Found You” together.  Its no secret how much I loved Paul on American Idol and his band The Grand Magnolias, however I’m not the least bit impressed with this release.  I wanted to love it but I just don’t.  On the other side of things, who knew Nikki Reed could sing?  I knew she had a background in writing, when she acted in and co-wrote the screen play for the movie ‘Thirteen’ back in 2003.  So she penned the lyrics to “Now That I’ve Found You,” and her vocals on this track far exceeded my expectations.  I don’t think I’m being a harsh critic when I say, the song overall is not impressive… but you should check it out for yourself:

It’s probably just me, but does it remind you at all of this?

Ok onto the legitimately good stuff.

The amount of new Christmas music being released has overwhelmed me.  I think my next blog post is going to have a list of my favorites.  But right now I need to share this gem with you.  November 21st is the release date on iTunes for this nothing short of amazing track by Haley Reinhart & Casey Abrams.  If this doesn’t get you in the holiday spirit I don’t know what will.  Haley’s voice will never disappoint me.  Check out the video for “Baby It’s Cold Outside,” its charming, captivating, and beautiful.

Saint Augustine Academy Spring/Summer 2012

Simplicity always looks great – a fact that the designers at Saint Augustine Academy know very well. They put together some crisp looks for their Spring/Summer 2012 collection. Clean, slim-cut slacks anchor these looks, providing an easy base for classic shirts that create a lightweight look for the warmer months. The muted tones play well together, fostering looks that are easy on the eyes, but not easy enough to put you to sleep. Sandals and heeled cowboy boots don’t normally work with such polished looks, but the footwear displayed in these lookbook images look beautifully worn in and still work with the ensembles. I’m a huge fan of what they’ve done for Spring/Summer 2012.

Winter socks and ankle boots: A trend not to miss

Back in the Spring of 2010, Burberry and Christian Dior introduced us to summer socks worn with heels.  We loved the look of this trend – especially for Spring.

But as the temperatures drop, women are getting creative and keeping this trend alive – with a Fall twist.

For Fall 2011, we’re loving ankle boots paired with neutral winter socks.

Winter socks and ankle boots will be great for your upcoming Holiday parties – this trend can be quite versatile, modern and very chic.  Looks great with midi length skirts, cropped trousers and even your favorite LBD.

Making Body Music by DJ Daito Manabe for dENiZEN

Denizen, an off-shoot of Levi’s, worked with Japanese electronic engineer DJ Daito Manabe to produce this video showcasing his magical music machine which produces sounds based on body movement. Levi’s Strauss & Co. explain more:

OPI recently unveiled the Holland Collection for Spring 2012. The colors are inspired by the “vivid tulips, windmill-dotted hillsides, and bustling canals” of The Netherlands. Our favorites include: A Roll in The Hague, Kiss Me On My Tulips, I Don’t Give A Rotterdam!, Gouda Gouda Two Shoes.

The Holland Collection will be available on February 8 at select salons, as well as online at stores like Drugstore.com.

Dr. Brandt Pores No More Hint of Tint Review

When it comes time to go out to the world, I like to show a nice face and concealing my pores in one of the steps I take that make a huge difference on my look. Now I have a new favorite: it’s Dr. Brandt Skincare Pores No More a pore refiner.

I’ve tried a sample of the product and I tried to make it last as long as I could and now I’m definitely going to buy the product. What I liked about the Pore No More is that it’s like putting make-up on. This is how I’ve been using it:

First, I use Cargo One Base Concealer + Foundation in One. Which does a great job with my dark circles and sunspots.

Second, I use Pores No More Hint of Tint in the areas where my pores need it the most.

Third, I use Nars Powder Foundation SPF 12 to give my face a matte look

And after the base is done, then I do the eyes, lips, etc and give myself one spritz of Murad Hydrating Toner, which hidrates the face after all that makeup while at the same time helps to set it and now you’re good to go.

I’ll be honest: I took a before and after pic so you could all see the huge difference, but then I didn’t have the guts to post the pics. My nose looks huge because of the camera angle and all my imperfections would be too visible….but trust me I look like I have almost flawless skin!!

Inspiration for the work week

Every now and then I get stuck in a fashion rut, where I am completely uninspired in the morning and I just throw on my go-to jeans, a basic t, cardigan and call it a day.  Ok, I might add some funky shoes – just so it looks like I tried!

For those of you who feel a little fashionably uninspired (like me) – this is for you.  I’ve created some looks to get you inspired when getting ready in the morning.

Office Trendsetter

Work Week

Basic, yes.  But layering a printed sweater over a button up, creates a fashion-forward look.

Perfection at the Office

Work Week

Cropped denim (or trousers) with a cable knit sweater and pointy pumps – looks polished and a little preppy.

Making a Statement

Work Week

You’ll get a lot of mileage out of colored trousers this season.  Pair them with a printed blouse for a bold look.

Back to Basics

Work Week

A t-shirt and denim.  Not exactly “work appropriate.”  But when paired with sleek flats, a chunky sweater and statement jewelry – you’ve just created the perfect Casual Friday look!

Office Chic

Work Week

A minimal, yet sexy (and appropriate) look for the office.  Navy and black look very chic when paired together.  Add a pop of color for some playfulness!
