Pattern mixing made easy
Mixing patterns is a trend that I absolutely love. But it’s definitely much harder than it would seem. Mixing patterns takes a lot of experimenting, but it’s a lot of fun – and you might just discover some hidden gems in your closet!

Two of the best pieces of advice when mixing patterns:
1. Mix patterns that are in the same color family
2. Mix patterns of different weights
Play around with what you’ve got in your closet, start out small – pair a printed scarf with a top of a different pattern. And if you’re like me and have to “see it to believe it,” then this pattern mixing chart should be very helpful!
EZ Textiles – check out and sign up – have fun mixing and creating you’re own patterns.
Tarte Eyelash Curler
As many readers may know I’m obsessed with big and curly eyelashes, especially since I was born with small and straight ones. When I first started writing for Style Bust I posted a review on an Eyelash Enhancement Serum, which has worked great, I do have longer lashes, except they’re still straight.
I regularly try and review mascaras and even gave my Top Four Mascaras chosen from ten different ones I tried. Now my new obsession is to purchase an amazing eyelash curler that I think is not on the market yet. I was at a cousin’s house and I don’t recall how, but the topic came into eyelashes and my woes. She proceeded to boast about a curler that was too good to be true so of course, I had to try it. She got it from one of those promotional goody bags you receive at Macy’s after buying a certain amount of product. I used the curler and after a few seconds and with a light touch my lashes were huge and curled! I put on some mascara and the effect remained intact the rest of the day. The only thing that identified the maker of the curler was the Lancome rose.
Armed with that knowledge, I’ve been searching for the curler physically in stores and online to no avail. So earlier this week I submitted a note to Lancome asking about it, no word yet, if they respond I’ll update this post.
In the meantime I found this one from Tarte which has the same shape as the one my cousin has.
I bought this one at Sephora site, it’s the Tarte Picture Perfect Duo. It works well, the lashes get a nice curl that in my case lasts about an hour before they go back down. With this said if you have eyelashes that easily curl, then this curler from Tarte is awesome and will make your lashes look great! In my case, I’ll keep searching.
Wedding Photo Inspiration
There is a lot to love about wedding photos featured on blogs like Snippet & Ink and The Ruffled Blog (to name a few). In preparation for my wedding next Saturday, I’ve put together some wedding photographs I like.
Happy weekend!
Fall fashion favorites
New York Fashion Week begins on September 8th – and you can bet that I’ll be sharing my favorite designers and looks with you!
But lets not get too ahead of ourselves. We still need to dress for this Fall. After spending hours looking through magazines (I know, it’s hard work, but someones got to do it), I decided to summarize what Fall 2011 will look like.
The trousers – pair a colored pant with some major outerwear for a downtown chic look or try a striped sweater for a preppy daytime look.
Alexander Wang and DKNY (Fall/Winter 2011)
Monochromatic and Color – monochromatic neutrals look very classic, but wearing head-to-toe shades of a bright color (mustard for example) is very on trend for Fall. If you like to wear more than one color, add a shade of red to your wardrobe this Fall – don’t be afraid of reds or burgundy, they tend to look good on all skin tones.
Acne, Akris, Jason Wu, and Roberto Cavalli (Fall/Winter 2011)
The Midi and Maxi – both midi and maxi lengths skirts or dresses are very versatile. You can pair them with sexy pumps, for an evening on the town or toughen the look up a bit and wear wedge ankle boots. The midi and maxi lengths are perfect for a chilly Fall evening.
Proenza Schouler, Rag & Bone, Chloe and Edun (Fall/Winter 2011)

Shopping for Bedroom Furniture
There is a lot to consider when shopping for bedroom furniture. Dimensions, room size, durability (especially if you have children) and aesthetics. Of course you want something that looks great!
Why not decide on a theme? Oak and pine furniture look very elegant and grown-up. Both woods are hard-wearing and will last a long time. If you opt for oak or pine furniture, make sure your room is on the larger side, or your bedroom could end up looking rather cramped and uninviting.
If your room is large and you have extra money to spend, why not have your bedroom designed and fitted specifically to your tastes. Many furniture stores offer deals and discounts when you buy everything from them. By doing this, you can ensure every piece of furniture coordinates. Going with this options allows you to have input every step of the way – the result will be a bedroom that is tailored to you and your needs, as well as a design you love. Shop around to get the best deal and be sure to check out the furniture guarantee.
Smaller rooms call for lighter furniture, and not just in color. That four-poster cherry wood bed may have looked fantastic on the shop floor, but if you don’t have any floor space left when you get it into your bedroom, it will be a bit inconvenient. Sofa beds are a great compromise for a small room and are available in a range of colors and styles. Sofa beds are also ideal for studio apartments too. Make sure the bed you desire is suitable for everyday usage (not all of them are) to ensure you get the most out of the furniture.
Many online stores often have good deals on bedroom furniture if money is a bit tight to shell out all at once, and their guarantees mean if anything goes wrong, you will be covered for replacements or repair, providing the item is still under warranty.

Come Experience Photobooth on Valencia – Grand Opening Party
Vince Donovan and Michael Shindler created the concept for Photobooth – a fun alternative photography experience opening on Valencia (next to Beretta) – one day over margaritas in the Mission.
Both local photographers specialize in alternative processes. Michael is a tintype artist who has been at the center of making the Civil War-era photographic process modern again. Vince has been a fixture on the Mission scene for years shooting portraits on the street and in bars with an old Polaroid Land camera.
Photobooth joins the Valencia arts scene with a unique studio where anyone can walk in and get a one-of-a-kind portrait created instantly using alternative techniques. The Photobooth gallery will feature local alternative photographers and will host openings and events with special guest photographers. Think of Photobooth as a bar, with music, art, and creative conversation– only instead of pouring stiff drinks Vince and Michael are serving intoxicating photographs.
True photo geeks at heart, Michael and Vince really want Photobooth to be an alternative photographers playground – fully stocked with retro camera gear, refurbished Polaroid cameras, the full Lomography line of alternative camera gear and the new Polaroid film from The Impossible Project.
OPI: I Love DKMS
I had another post ready for this week, but I just read an article on Vogue and wanted to shared it with our Style Bust readers. An article called “The Fighter” on the August 2011 edition of Vogue.
From the article I learned that Katharina Harf’s mother was diagnosed with acute leukemia when Katharina was thirteen. The family got working and within a year recruited 68,000 people who got swabbed looking for a donor match. Even though Harf’s mother passed away, she still continues the efforts by being the co-founder and executive vice-president of DKMS Americas. DKMS is the German acronym for German Marrow Donor Center, which is the largest bone marrow donor center in the world.

The way to become a donor is by visiting DKMS Americas site, you register and get do-it-yourself cheek swab kit. You will collect your own sample and send it for the lab for tissue typing. It is very difficult to match donors, maybe you will be called to donate, maybe you won’t but by registering and getting swabbed you may be potentially saving a life.
To honor and further the cause, OPI has come out with I Love DKMS, a limited edition nail polish duo in cherry red and shimmery, sheer white at $8.50. Proceeds will benefit DKMS’s efforts to register new donors. This polish is available in select Ulta locations, but I wasn’t able to find the color online or through the OPI website, so if you find a location drop us a comment!
