Jean Paul Gaultier Denim Overalls

Many fashion-forward overalls showed up on the runways for Spring 2010; leather, suede and silk from Ralph Lauren, Chloe and Altuzarra, but my absolute favorite catwalk comeback was the urban take on the trend by Jean Paul Gaultier. He took the infamous 1990s look and put an updated, edgy and versatile spin on it for an outcome that gives the jumpsuit a run for its money.

Artist and housewares designer Alyson Fox’s new project , out this Spring, involves an edited group of handcrafted accessories and clothing. The pieces are sold at www.asmallcollection.com.

Her necklaces mix industrial metals, like ball chains, with wood and turquoise beads, it’s very unique and distinct, yet subtle. On some necklaces, she hand-inks prints onto fabric beads and cords make the prints a one-of-a-kind. Her clothing consists of geometric silk-screened or ikat tanks and a simple silk dress are just as artful as her jewelry (and comfortable looking).

Each creation is a limited-edition piece. So get em while their hot!

German designer Saskia Diez is known for her minimalist jewelry line, which is incredible if you haven’t seen it. Recently she’s branched out, beginning to sell two Papier handbags through Project No.8’s new online store. Shown above is the Papier 115G bag for $158.

It’s actually Saskia’s husband Stefan Diez who designed the bags for her. The bags are made of Tyvek, which is a waterproof, tearproof and recyclable material that is super light (less than 135G and explains why the bags are title Papier 115G and 135G).

Just the idea of super lightweight and durable travel bag that is not Lesportsac sounds nice, doesn’t it? Shown above is the Papier 135G bag for $193.

Karl Lagerfeld in Vice Magazine

Image of Karl Lagerfeld Interview in Vice Magazine

I love all things Karl Lagerfeld. I first fell in love with him while studying at FIDM. I used him as my inspiration for many school projects and wrote a few papers on him. Then, while studying at SFSU, in my business communications class, I gave a speech on Lagerfeld as my source of professional inspiration. This guy is involved in so many things beyond fashion, from hotel interior design to taking high end photography shots, to having 300+ iPod’s, all with different music, scattered throughout the globe at his multiple homes.

It’s no surprise that I was excited to hear Bruce LaBruce of Vice Magazine interviewed Lagerfeld, and it is featured over a seven page spread in the latest issue.

Lagerfeld on not removing his sunglasses for interviews:

They’re my burka. I had an interview once with some German journalist, some horrible, ugly woman. It was in the early days after the communists, maybe a week after, and she wore a yellow sweater that was kind of see-through. She had huge tits and a huge black bra, and she said to me, “It’s impolite; remove your glasses.” I said, “Do I ask you to remove your bra?”

In the past few years a wide array of products consumers can design themselves have hit the market. I just learned of yet another company, offering a different design-your-own-product line, custom designed board shorts for the boys!

At Shortomatic.com consumers upload their own artwork for a truly customised swim style. All customers need do is indicate their waist size and then upload the graphics they have in mind. They then position and size the art, choose their colours and add text for use on the waistband. Voila!

Those feeling less creative can also browse Shortomatic’s curated gallery of existing designs – currently, there are close to 700 exhibited there

The collection for Spring will be entitled Northern Hemisphere while the Fall collection will reflect the Southern Hemisphere. Here are some images from their upcoming range which will include knits, plaid suits, vests, leather, and footwear. Its very hard to tell which pieces belong to each season since the color palette appears to be very ‘fall’. Regardless, there are some handsome, clean and simple pieces being released this year.
