Kat Von D Tattoo Concealer
Mother’s Day in my family is a big event with several dozen aunts, uncles, cousins, food and fun. We all prepare for the party at least one month in advance, we wear our pretty summer dresses and have a great time.
This year, before I bought the dress, my mom’s gift or the greeting cards, I bought Kat Von D Tattoo Concealer.
My family is a tad old-fashioned and I prefer them not to see my tattoos, while at the same time I don’t want to compromise my personal style by getting a dress I don’t like just to hide them. And this product really works as you can see for yourself with Kat Von D in this photo shoot promoting her fragrance Saint & Sinner.
I did some tests on myself before the big party and was very pleased with the results. The concealer comes in different shades, it retails for $25 can be purchased exclusively at Sephora.
In order to make your cover-up job look even more flawless, the collection recently introduced the Tattoo Eraser (retails for $14) and the Tattoo Concealer Brush (retails for $19).
This is a great product if you want to dress up or just want to maintain the peace in the family.
Dolce and Gabbana Cocktail
This month’s Men’s Fashion Week in Milan will mark the 20th anniversary of Dolce and Gabbana’s menswear collection, and to celebrate the fashion house will debut their very own signature martini!
In addition to the premiere of their custom cocktail, Dolce and Gabbana have been opening bars in their Milan and Shanghai locations to further their partnership with MARTINI, a Bacardi vermouth brand. This will be the fashion duo’s second co-branded product- the first being with Motorola in 2005 – and will be their introduction to the spirits industry.
No word yet on the name of the concoction or if the drink will even be a traditional martini, but Dolce and Gabbana are no strangers to extravagant launches. In 2006, the fashion house timed the opening of their first restaurant, Gold, to coincide with the closing of Milan’s Fashion Week.
The lavish, fittingly all gold interior was so well executed that I’m eager to check out these latest endeavors. Designed by Ferruccio Laviani, the super chic decor and modern layout of the bar attached to Dolce and Gabbana’s Shanghai store speaks to the luxury Domenico and Stefano have always embodied in their collections.
I’m not going to lie; I like to have a cocktail before a shopping adventure. Who doesn’t? There can be annoying crowds, unflattering mirrors in the fitting rooms, obnoxious sales people or worse, all of the above. I’ve always found it’s easier to deal with these threats with a slight buzz.
And, trust me, after over-indulging on Dolce and Gabbana’s latest fashion creations, you’re going to want this cocktail to take the edge off your bank statement!
Proenza Schouler Resort 2011 Weekender Bag
The PS1 – weekender bags in the Proenza Schouler Resort 2011 collection are ridiculous. The PS1 bag was introduced seasons ago, and it was only a matter of time before designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez expanded the runaway hit. Resort was a fabulous time to relaunch the weekender bag. Resort is the one season where designers can test new ideas, shapes and colors.
I love the shape of the bag, its also great that the bag will be released in two different sizes, medium and large this December. I appreciate that the bag looks fantastic without too much hardware. It appears to have plenty of roomy pockets. I can’t wait until these bags hit the discounters so I can actually afford them!!
Summer Shorts Can Be Sexy
Summer’s here and we bet you can’t wait to get some sun on your legs; however, you may be thinking, “I’m a little bored with jean shorts.” Don’t fret, there are other options– try some tap shorts! They’re fetching, light-weight, and can be dressed up or down effortlessly. While they were originally used for dance or as an undergarment, they are now worn as outerwear, and come in silk, cotton, lace, etc. Who knew lingerie could be so versatile?
For a daytime, casual look, try them with a white camisole and a jean jacket or cardigan, and for a nighttime and more sophisticated look, sport them with a blazer, black tights, and some Mary Jane heels. Whichever you choose, you’ll look chic– these shorts are the perfect balance of sexy and simple.

Feeling Dirty
I’ve seen enough! This season is all about short shorts and apparently it’s the year of “crotch shots!” I feel dirty looking at fashion photographs in magazines and online editorials of models with their legs wide open…wearing the tiniest of bottoms and smoking a cigarette. I mean, who in the “real world” actually sits like this? But, that’s what makes them models…they can get away with awkward poses and tiny shorts!
I think the only way this “pose” might be considered appropriate would be in your brothers secret stash of dirty magazines! Not in a fashion magazine, where the models are wearing $1000 shoes (that you hardly notice)!
If the designer and photographer were hoping to get our attention by shocking us with a detailed photo of the groin…they have made their point! But for us in the real world, remember…this look isn’t flattering! So, close those legs and keep it classy!
Heel doggy, heel!
When one thinks of classic femininity, high heels usually come to mind. The height that heels can add shape and elongate legs and create a kick-ass silhouette. No wonder even in modern times when ideas of femininity have been stretched to the limits women are still dying to squeeze their feet into sky-high shoes. Fashion role models, like Sex and the City’s famous character Carrie Bradshaw, glamorize tall shoes and makes it appear as if walking in them is a breeze! Us everyday women know that this is not always the case and because of that there has been an on-going debate between heels or flats?
Heels are known for causing chronic back pain and knee joint problems in women who wear them regularly. These are just the long-term effects and that doesn’t include trips, falls, and some pretty gnarly spills (I recently suffered one recently that took my right ankle out of commission for a while). Where as in the past when women were trained to wear heels from an early age, in modern times young girls usually don’t attempt to seriously wear heels until around puberty and when they finally are expose they opt for tall stilettos. These can be harder to walk in then their shorter, chunkier siblings. The heels they wear are also typically on the cheap side (gotta love Wet Seal and their low prices) and therefore cannot really offer the support needed in places like the balls of the feet.
So what does a stylish girl do? Wearing heels can make you feel sexy and powerful and flats sometimes cannot offer that kind of ego boost. Also, we are now being told by sources like Cosmopolitan Magazine that wearing heels can shape our booties and calves. My advice is to stick to lower heights and keep the haute couture heights for special occasions. I also suggest investing in heels that are higher quality. You feet will thank you and plus they will remain a staple in your closet for a long time. And follow one simple rule, if you are struggling to walk in the heels… then opt out for the flats because no one looks sexy when they are walking like a crane.

Theophilus London- I Want You
For the past year, I’ve questioned the originality of recent statements made in fashion, music, and art. Moreover, it’s time for an artistic renaissance. As the first decade of the new millennium is ending, technology has been rendered as the vanguard of decade statements. Technological trends have occurred while creative movements are recycled and branded as new for today’s youth.
In recent years, the green movement has not only become a lifestyle, but a trend; which has crossed over from environmental advantages to musical apathy.
Theophilus London, “center of the new urban pop movement”, is a direct example of musical and fashion apathy. His declaration of individuality is derailed through his recent efforts, “I want you,” a song claimed to have been sampled by a vintage Marvin Gaye record. However, evidence from YouTube clearly overrides Londons declaration as he simply raps over the song. No effort (not even a loop) was made to establish his identity and/or aesthetic. And naturally, his classic 80s/90s urban mix apparel: double breast blazers, canvass sneakers, and let’s not forget the wayfarers provide the lookbook for fashion apathy. Need I present more evidence?
However, director, Va$htie, saves London by visually presenting “I want you.” A black and white film shot in intimate locations where acts of intimacy occur- the bedroom, the bathroom, hmm…the hallway.
Va$htie catches the observers eye through the film style, cinema verite, as we watch London revel in the awkwardly portrayed beauty of the actress over candid shots of sensuality.
Yes, we can say Va$htie drew much inspiration from Madonna’s “Justify My Love”, well excluding the elements of bondage, S&M- overall, behavior deemed by society as sexually deviant.
And yes, there is a lack of cohesive structure within the music video given each shot doesn’t blend with the precedent shot or correlate with the climax and unruffled voice of Marvin. But within that, Va$htie beautifully presents images of candidacy with the idea of inhibited sexual desire, which is commonly not represented in urban/rap videos.
While my interests in Theophilus London as an artist are questionable, I’m excited to see more from Va$htie as an upcoming female urban artist. Click the link for Theo London- I want You video
Furniture by Tim Byrne
Tim Byrne designs and builds some amazing desks and tables that I thought would be worth sharing. The pieces are made from old industrial machines that most of us wouldn’t think of reconstructing into anything because, let’s face it, we’re not creative or awesome like Tim Bryne. He typically combines his desks and tables with glass, African mahogany, Rosewood to make pieces that are truly amazing for any home to have.
