RowNine enters Flash Sales space

There are many flash sales sites on the web, Gilt Groupe, Rue La La, HauteLook and Ideeli. These site offer their members 50%-70% off retail goods. Newbie RowNine is hoping to differentiate itself by offering a more personalized platform that allows users to customize the types of clothing, handbags and accessories that are delivered to them.

On RowNine, users will now be prompted to specify what types of clothing, brands, bags, and more items they are interested in purchasing. Customers can indicate their preferences when perusing offers and merchandise on the RowNine Website by giving a “thumbs up or down” to build their preference profile.
RowNine will then source and recommend customized products to the users. RowNine’s recommendation engine will integrate a shopper’s clickstream and purchase history as well as group matching with customers with similar interests to deliver targeted recommendations. Customers will also have the ability to publish products and purchases they like via their Facebook and Twitter accounts.

While the space is competitive, the model is certainly ambitious and could prove to be attractive to shoppers who want more customized offerings from online sample sales. One of the biggest challenges for RowNine will be to attract users; the site only has a hundred thousand members as compared to the millions competitors have. But the online sample sale space is still growing, and clearly there’s room for a number of strong players.

White Castle Celebrates National Hamburger Month With Slider Scented Candle

Yes, this is true.

To commemorate its 18th annual celebration of National Hamburger Month, White Castle has teamed up with Laura Slatkin, founder of Nest Fragrances, often called the “queen” of home fragrances, to introduce a candle with the steam-grilled-on-a-bed-of-onions scent of America’s first fast-food hamburger. Packaged in a ceramic holder that reproduces the signature cardboard sleeve of the White Castle hamburger packaging, the candles are available in White Castle restaurants and at White Castle’s online store at www.houseofcrave.com. Candles sell for $10 each, with net proceeds benefiting Autism Speaks.

Trend Alert: Layered Necklaces

My favorite accessory, hands down, would have to be necklaces. There are chokers, pendant necklaces, pearl necklaces, bead necklaces, gold and sterling silver necklaces, long draping necklaces, plastic necklaces, and jeweled necklaces to choose from, who wouldn’t find what they’re looking for with all this variety? For me, deciding which one to wear each day is challenging because I more than one work with my outfit….so bring on the Spring 2010 trend of layering necklaces.

Layering necklaces to create entirely new looks. The key to layering necklaces is layering different styles of necklaces. If you layer necklaces that are all the same, the look is not as effective or nearly as interesting. Try to find necklaces that are of different lengths. Also try alternating pendants and beaded necklaces. You shouldn’t be afraid of mixing metals. In the past, mixing gold and sterling silver jewelry was a faux pas, but when it comes to this trend, mixing metals is completely fine. Also, don’t worry about it being too bulky. Usually, more you have on, the better, but do not go overboard. Three to four necklaces should do the trick! If the necklaces are bulky on their own opt for a smaller number of necklaces. If they are thin and dainty you can add more! Try to mix weights, colors, lengths, and styles, and you will come out with a fabulous new look.

This label is not just about cutting a stylish figure on the streets; integral to its DNA is the long-term quality of the pieces, offering superior comfort and wearability. They use 9-11 ounce real European denim with raw, stone, bleach, snow and leather-look washes, and real feather down for their jackets and Geelong merino angora for their knitwear. Their 100% cotton tees feature wild animals and mythology-style graphic prints. The only negative? Your kids could quite likely steal the spotlight from your own sartorial efforts. Consider yourself warned! – Kate Vandermeer

I’m using the image of the little blond boy as my desktop background image on my work computer. I think the SQL guru who’s been working with me (at my desk) thinks I’m a bit creepy having a photo of a little boy I don’t know as my desktop. I really hope I can have a boy who looks like this when I grow up and become a mom!
