Denim Days

I’m a huge fan of wearing denim on top…especially in the form of a chambray/denim button down shirt.  There are a lot of ways to style this denim-on-top trend without making it look like you’re wearing a Canadian Tuxedo!

Below is 1 top, styled 4 different ways (with a high-end look and a low-end look from Forever21)…so you can see how easy it is to wear your denim shirt for practically any occasion (whether you’re going out for the evening or just running errands)!

Get a similar (cheaper) look here from Forever21.

Check out the Forever21 version of this outfit here.

Here is a similar look from Forever21.

As you can see, wearing a denim button down is simple and it’s an All-American classic (I don’t care what they say about the Canadian Tuxedo…I think it originated here)!

Pretty in Pale

A few weeks back I wrote about wearing gray this summer and how much I love the color!  I still think heather gray is perfect for Summer, but I am also loving the monochromatic trend by pairing pale shades of pinks, mushroom and tan (check out Etro‘s Spring collection).

Wearing these pale shades can be simple…since the colors come from the same hue, they all can be paired together (pale pink with heather gray and tan look great together).  And since these colors are so light…they look great with black (especially for Fall)!  Wearing head-to-toe pale colors creates a feminine, polished look…that is appropriate for any occasion!

Here are a few looks I put together…so you can try out the pale/monochromatic trend!

This Week in Fashion 8/7

I am inspired by fashion I see on the streets and now thanks to all the personal style websites and blogs (like Lookbook, Chictopia and Fashiontoast), I have inspiration right at my fingertips!

Here are a few of my favorite looks from the past week…

1. Christeric, 2. Could I Have That, 3. Vintage Virgin, 4. The Glamouri

What I love about these looks is that these ladies know how to accessorize, pair high-end with low-end pieces and their finished “looks” look effortless!

Festival Express

Music festival season is well underway!  Which means that culture lovers from around the world are dusting-off camping equipment, memorizing song lyrics and nowadays, thinking about what they pack in their backpacks!  It seems that the fashion scene at these festivals is just as important as the music!

Festival fashion is about mixing clothes, styles, accessories and fabrics you wouldn’t normally dare to mix…the festival scene is home to self-expression and individualism.

Remember the practicalities of fashion are of the utmost importance on the festival scene (comfortable shoes and clothing) and be prepared for all weather conditions…it may be summer but rain and mud are always a possibility at festivals.  And for the finishing touch…accessorize!  Anything goes…there is time and place for wearing what you want…and a music festival is just the place!

If you missed Coachella, SXSW and Bonnaroo, no need to fret…there are still a few note-worthy festivals coming up this month!

Lollapalooza in Chicago, Outside Lands in San Francisco, Mile High Music Fest, Denver, and Burning Man in Black Rock Desert, Nevada.

Erin Wasson in Elle Italia

One of my favorite models-turned-designers-who-still-models ever, Erin Wasson was recently shot for Elle Italia in her Texan hometown. The photographs are spectacular.

Summer Socks

Summer socks!  I love this trend…it’s chic, feminine and if worn properly, this look can be extremely modern.  We’ve seen this look on the runway at Christian Dior and Burberry, and we’ve also seen it on some of our favorite leading ladies.

Wearing socks with heels or wedges can be a little tricky though.  You need the right socks, the right shoes and the overall right “look.”  I’ve seen women trying to pull-off this trend, but usually it’s the socks that ruin the look.  You definitely need a thin sock (mesh, silk, or cashmere works best), in a neutral color, and be sure the sock hits a couple inches above the ankle.  Personally, I think a strappy, chunky heel looks best, especially wedges.  And as far as wardrobe goes, keep it simple…wear a basic top, wide leg denim, or a girlie sundress.

Here are a few of my favorite sock and heel looks for summer!

Since wearing the perfect sock is important this summer, check out Tabio, an online Japanese specialty sock store.  To put it simply, they have a large range of socks and tights…sheer, sparkly, ribbed thick and thin…you’ll definitely be able to find the best pair of socks to wear with your heels this summer!

Guest of a Wedding

Weddings are a time of happiness, dancing, eating, drinking and taking photos (which means looking your best)!  Of course, the bride and groom have much more to worry about when it comes to their attire than the guests…but when you’re a guest, you also have to do some wardrobe planning.

When choosing a dress, make sure you know where the wedding will be held (in a church, on a beach, in a backyard) because it’s important to dress accordingly.  Usually weddings in a church tend to be more elegant/formal than the backyard wedding.  And you also don’t want to upstage the bride, so don’t show up in an elaborate gown or a mini dress (like Ciara recently wore to Lala’s wedding).

Solid colored dresses are practical for either an indoor or outdoor wedding (if at all possible, just try not to wear the same color as the bridesmaids).  By wearing a solid colored dress, you have tons of accessory and shoe options.  You can wear a patterned or colored shoe to give your dress a little extra edge.  And as far as accessories go, wear a long necklace or some earrings and you’re set!  You can also add a light shawl (in my opinion cardigans tend to be too casual) in a neutral tone or even another shade of your dress to stay warm.

Haute Hippie, Avenue, Shoshanna, Issa

Printed dresses are great for outdoor weddings becuase they look more casual.  With the right accessories, such as gold bracelets and earrings, you’ll be able to dress up a printed dress.  I chose to show a lot of maxi-length printed dresses, because I think they are perfect for a summer wedding…they’re flowy, bohemian and above all…comfortable!

Most importantly, choose a dress that suits your overall style and wear a color that compliments your skin tone.  You always want to be comfortable and look your best at weddings!
