Summer lovin’
As summer kicks into full gear, I am pleased to see some of my favorite Summer 2012 trends come out to play. This seasons hottest trends can be found everywhere, from nail polish to handbags – you’ll be sure to find something that keeps you looking cool all summer long!
Blair from Atlantic-Pacific mixes and matches pastel hues perfectly. Pastels can be dressed up or dressed down, which makes these pretty pieces a staple in your summer wardrobe.
Liz from Late Afternoon blog has a feminine, bohemian look going on. Try not to over accessorize your lace pieces – minimal, neutral tones look great with lace and play up the ‘girlieness’ of this favorite summertime trend.
As we all know denim is big year round, but Julie of Sincerely, Jules does it right – light washed denim creates a laid back, nonchalant look. Perfect for those lazy days of summer.
Doors, Doors, And More Doors
Over recent years outdoor living spaces have become just as important as rooms inside the house. Today modern homes are often times designed around central courtyards, patios, and pools. Homes feature beautiful french doors and glass doors that open up to outdoor living areas. In some cases glass walls fold out of the way all together, or retract into ceilings opening entire rooms to the outdoors. Second floor bedrooms, offices, and dens contain access to balconies via french doors. Additionally, screen porches and window walls are geared towards bringing the outdoors in. The idea is to have less of a hard break between indoors and outdoors. And with more energy efficient windows and doors, there’s no penalty in comfort or energy efficiency.
I am in love with this trend. I live in a high-rise, with no balcony, or access to the outdoors within my unit. I dream of the day I buy a place in the peninsula (with my husband) and have a yard to landscape and furnish! Outdoor entertaining offers a relaxed atmosphere perfect for hosting parties, and dinners. It’s no surprise that as homes continue to shrink in size, outdoor living spaces continue to increase (according to a Professional Builder study). The average home blueprint goes well beyond standard outdoor features. They include outdoor kitchens, sun-rooms, fireplaces, and media rooms equipped with projector screens and surround sound.
Here are some of our favorite looks for expanding the house outwards through doors and windows.

Style Spotlight: JGL
If you read this blog regularly, you probably remember seeing a couple posts about Joseph Gordon Levitt. He was my first TV show crush (when he was on 3rd Rock from the Sun), and remains a solid crush today. I forget he first appeared on the big screen in A River Runs Through It in 1992 (my aunt was also in this movie). He received the Young Artist Awards for “Best Actor Under Ten” for this work. Good job lil’ JGL!
Not only is Joseph Gordon Levitt a good looking actor, he also has mad style. He wears suits that work well for his body type and dresses up better than a lot of other red carpet regulars. His vests always catch my eye (I love a man in a good vest).
To get Joseph Gordon Levitt’s look, aim to find a balance of polished and casual. Grab a structured blazer, layer it over a button up shirt, straight leg trousers (or jeans), and finish with a key accessory.
Origins No Puffery
A few weeks ago I reviewed Origins Age-Erasing Skin Care, during my research I came across Origins No Puffery -Cooling Mask for Puffy Eyes. Without a doubt best product ever!!
The very first time I used it was about a week ago, I had my sis and her hubby in town for the weekend. Friday night I went to sleep at 3 AM and woke up on Saturday at 7:30 AM, after that it was non-stop all day with my sis, it was fun but I was beyond tired by 2 PM, I desperately needed a nap.
Fortunately, we went to a shopping mall with a Sephora store in it, and I bought Origins No Puffery. As soon as I got out of the store I put on half a drop on each eye and within five minutes my eyes felt so refreshed, my sister said the change in my eyes was very noticeable and I actually felt more energy and we continued with our shopping that day!
There are two ways to use this product, which is a lightweight fresh gel with no perfumes added. Before applying your make-up apply a drop under each eye, lie down and relax for 10 minutes, then take the excess off with a tissue. The other way is by applying it several times a day, only a very small amount, about half a drop under each eye will do. And for an added kick, you can chill it!
I have all the bad habits that result in puffy eyes and I’ve tried almost all the rollers out there, frozen spoons and chamomile tea bags….nothing has worked as well as this product. I love it!!
Summer sandals: a perfect pair for every foot
We all know that women come in all shapes and sizes – and so do our feet (something not many of us think about when shopping for shoes). I mean, we wear clothing that flatters our figures – so why not wear a sandal this summer that flatters our perfectly polished piggies?
As the days get warmer, we’re seeing some of this seasons best sandals. But just because the sandal is cute – it doesn’t mean that they will look good on every foot. Here’s a little guide to help you find the perfect summer sandal that will draw some attention (the good kind) to your feet.
Large feet (above size 10): Black and other dark colors have the same effect below the ankles as above. Find a sandal with maximum coverage (i.e. thick straps), your feet will appear daintier.
Thick ankles: Avoid sandals that draw attention to the ankle – they will make your legs appear very short. Instead, opt for a pair of sling backs or a sandal that shows off the arch of your foot.
Wide feet: Try a sandal with thick straps that fit comfortably across the foot. A wedge sandal is perfect for “elongating” the foot.
Small ankles: Show off those thin ankles with Grecian style sandals. Look for a sandal with multiple ankle straps in metallics or bold hues.
Long toes: Stay away from “thong” type sandals – long toes will usually end up hanging over the edge. Instead, try a peep toe sandal or a sandal with multiple straps near the toe area.
Small feet (size 6 or smaller): Draw some attention to those tiny feet. Opt for gemstone encrusted sandals or a sandal with a graphic print. Loud shoes are made for you.
Check out websites like Zappos or DSW for a huge selection of sandals – you can search by width or size to narrow down your search.

CROSS YOUR BODY
That’s right, crosses have returned! When it comes to crosses there are no rules. Big, bold, colorful, neutral, and delicate are all acceptable this season. The Ernest Jones Necklace collection has a lineup of beautiful diamond encrusted crosses.
DANGLE-ies
Chandelier earrings are beautiful and feminine. They can make an outfit luxurious in no time. The trend can be found in precious metals and less expensive materials this season. Add are adorned with amazing jewels or resin elements in them.
STACK IT
The ‘stacking bracelets’ trend is nothing new, we’ve been doing it for seasons. Arm candy continues into summer 2012. The more materials, finishes, textures, patterns, and colors you can pile on the better. No ensemble is complete without a high end piece for the stack. Shoot for a Pandora Leather Bracelet at John Greed.
FLORAL FANTASY
Petals and buds aren’t only featured as clothing prints this season, they also appear on necklaces, bracelets, and rings. Flowers appear on all types of jewelry materials from jewel encrusted petals to resin materials, make sure to adorn your summer outfits with flowers!
