48 Hour Magazine

image of 48 hour magazine

Anyone who’s ever worked for a magazine knows that putting together an issue involves extensive interviews, fact checking, loads of red pen marks and photo retouching. One collective of writers and publishers decided to execute the ultimate experiment in editorial adrenaline by constructing a periodical in just 48 hours, called the 48 Hour Magainze.

A raucous experiment in using new tools to erase media’s old limits

48Hour Magazine’s Issue Zero kicked off on May 7th, when its editorial board unveiled the theme “Hustle”, for which potential contributors had exactly 24 hours to create and submit their work. In just 24 more hours, content was edited, designed and printed into a polished paper magazine and companion website. It’s certainly not in keeping with the slow trend, but the extraction of the aforementioned stress factors makes working on fast forward seem like not such a bad idea.

Anne Hathaway Doesn’t Want Con Man Ex’s Jewelry

Anne Hathaway may have starred in The Devil Wears Prada, but she is hardly a material girl. In fact, Anne is kissing goodbye a treasure trove of jewels given to her by her con-man ex (pictured above)

Back in August 2008, Hathaway handed over about a dozen pieces of jewelry, just after her Italian-born former flame, Raffaello Follieri, was accused of cheating investors out of $13 million. Follieri was sentenced to 4 1/2 years in prison that October.

Anne had until February 2010 to file a petition claiming ownership of the jewels, which include two Rolex watches, a pair of silver-colored earrings with “blue and clear stones,” a silver-colored chain with a cross pendant, two gold-colored rings, a five-strand pearl necklace, and a Louis Vuitton box.

Hathaway may have closed the door on Follieri’s legal issues, but her new love interest, actor Adam Shulman (pictured below), has introduced Hathaway to a whole new world of legal trouble. He was recently accused of theft after removing a mural from a Manhattan construction site on Saturday May 15th. Shulman apparently thought it was free for the taking, said H&H Builders president Ken Hart, but returned the artwork after realizing his mistake.

The Chippensteel 0.5

The Chippensteel 0.5 is a chair designed by Oskar Zieta. Its an obvious match for his Plopp Stool which launched a couple years ago.

In fact, this chair is made with exactly the same production technique called FiDU as his Plopp Stool. FiDU is an abbreviation for German “FreieInnenDruckUmformung” – the Internal Pressure Forming. It means that two shapes cut from steel sheets are welded around their edges and inflated into a 3d object under high pressure. I really like the simplicity of this technique and Oskar seems to push its boundaries to the limit, however I’ve yet to see an interior designer incorporate both the Chippensteel and the Plopp into a room properly.

The Most Prescribed Psychiatric Drugs in America

Jean Paul Gaultier Interior Designs for Roche Bobois

Jean Paul Gaultier’s new collaboration with upscale French furniture line Roche Bobois marks his reentry into the home design market. While details are scarce at this time, the French designer is giving us a glimpse of his interior skills with the Elle Decoration Suite, his makeover of the former Parisian apartment of ’30s-era architect Jacques Carlu, according to a press release. Open to the public from May 8 until October 2011, the Roche Bobois-sponsored suite features nautical and natural details, such as navy striped walls and garden prints.

“Clothes are my vocation, and as I only know how to dress, I dressed this Elle Decoration Suite… with various notes that already reside in my collections,”

Gaultier says in the release, citing green, marine, reflective and satin influences.

White Castle Celebrates National Hamburger Month With Slider Scented Candle

Yes, this is true.

To commemorate its 18th annual celebration of National Hamburger Month, White Castle has teamed up with Laura Slatkin, founder of Nest Fragrances, often called the “queen” of home fragrances, to introduce a candle with the steam-grilled-on-a-bed-of-onions scent of America’s first fast-food hamburger. Packaged in a ceramic holder that reproduces the signature cardboard sleeve of the White Castle hamburger packaging, the candles are available in White Castle restaurants and at White Castle’s online store at www.houseofcrave.com. Candles sell for $10 each, with net proceeds benefiting Autism Speaks.

Screw Me Lamps

If you don’t already know, the lamp is very important part of interior (Tyler’s mom can attest to this). Lamps need to be completely suitable for the style of the room it belongs to.

If you are a fan of simple, modern interiors, less is usually more Take Jonathan Rowell’s lamp “Screw Me”, it consists of simple lines and two basic colors.
