Alyssa Nicole at San Francisco Fashion Week 2010
Owen Geronimo of the San Francisco Fashion and Merchants Alliance is a friend of mine, and as of this year he is also the man behind San Francisco Fashion Week. Lucky for me, this means I have access to some very saucy San Francisco fashion events throughout the year and San Francisco Fashion Week made the start to a new fashion season a lot sweeter!
Aside from Alexandria von Bromssen, I wasn’t aware of any of the designers on the SF Fashion Week schedule this year. Now, you have to understand how small and disconnected the fashion scene is here in SF; and that the majority of the San Francisco based trend setters and fashion bloggers totally overlook the talent we have in our backyard to go straight to NYC based designers – and most of the time, not even by way of LA. That said, it’s hard to get good, honest data on what the designers here is SF are doing, and how we can see their collections.
This first collection I saw was self titled, Alyssa Nicole. The show started with very upbeat, dance music and cute girly models adorned in high tea type dresses. The collection was loosely tied together by two strings, 1) all items were dresses, and 2) it was entirely pink. As you can imagine this collection could go one of two ways….really, really good, or awfully bad. As you can see by the pieces below, I think most of us would agree that the collection fell into “good, with shades of gray”.
Pros: The silhouettes are flattering. The dress styles are current. The models all seemed comfortable, flirty and maybe even happy coming down the runway. I bet we all can imagine ourselves or closest girlfriends wearing one of these pieces.
Cons: Too much pink. Too many ruffles, layers, and frill for most urban girls.
The designer Alyssa Nicole is photographed in this last image.

Fall Favorites
Fall is just around the corner…and at Style Bust, we couldn’t be more excited! This Fall we can expect to see women wearing head-to-toe color, menswear inspired suits, and retro curve-hugging silhouettes.
On the Fall 2010 runways we saw endless amount of styles, all of which emphasize sex appeal and sophistication. And the cool thing is…a lot of the Fall looks are simple for us to get!

All of these Fall trends are accessible for us to get…stores like Forever 21, Zara and H&M pay close attention to runway fashion and make it easy to get similar looks on the cheap!
Ana Locking Autumn/Winter 2010-2011 Maxi Necklaces
This nice people of the Ana Locking Team sent me a link to their Autumn Winter 2010-2011 ephemeral jewelry collection. The pieces are amazing, and in line with the last ephemeral jewelry collection Ana Locking put out.
The most stunning pieces of the collection (in my opinion) are the maxi-necklaces made with paraffin wax in Black, Blue and Pink, and set on brass bases.
I particularly like the way the large Maxi looks on the male model Matvey. The look is totally appropriate for the runway, however I can’t imagine actually seeing, or appreciating an average man on the street wearing such a large necklace.
I was unable to locate more images of this blue necklace, which is too bad because the color is stunning. I think a necklace like this would look ideal with a solid colored outfit…I’m imaging a deep tan or olive outfit would look amazing with it.
Who doesn’t enjoy looking pretty in pink?
Rachel Gilman and the Return of Earrings
Previous seasons’ jewelry trends have been dominated by gigantic necklaces, and globes of rings and bracelets, and we’ve forgotten all about earrings.
For Fall, I’m all about rediscovering all sorts of earrings. My staples for the season will by your standard little studs in various colors and finishes. I’m beginning to branch out into bigger, and more colorful (even cheap looking) earrings for the season. The earrings featured here are purely for inspiration. They are the designs of stylist and jewelry designer Rachel Gilman. These are by far the brightest earrings I’ve found outside of Piedmont Boutique since the 80’s. I’m not sure I’d go for her rainbow bright pieces. Hell, I’m not even sure they’ll be for sale anywhere, but I thought they were pretty and unique enough to share with you!
Fendi Shoes Fall 2010
Fendi’s Fall 2010 collection, shown at Milan Fashion Week offers a unique collection of furs, suede, shearlings, organza, and velvet. Critiques are touting that this Fendi collection offers “luxe, wearable art”.
Forget about the clothing pieces, which look great, and is consistent with the brand (and therefore a bit boring to me). I wanted to cut to my favorite part of the show, the shoes! This cross between great heeled boots, athletic looking boots and hiker boots blows my mind. They appear to be great boots for all occasions because they can so easily be dress up or down.
The look was also carried over to a heeled ankle shoe…which may look event better than the boots. If the look hits mainstream, and is ripped off by less expensive designers, I’m definitely getting myself a pair. Shear genius!
Military, again?
Yes…I know Summer is about to begin, but I’m ready for Fall (the most exciting season in fashion)!
One of my favorite trends for Fall, is the military/aviator-inspired look. I know we’ve been seeing this trend since 2008, but this season the look is more subtle and all about functionality and utility. And less of the pomp and ceremony look we’ve seen in the past.
Aren’t you excited for Fall 2010?
Riccardo Tisci coed fashion shoot for Givenchy
Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci has taken the whole idea of “coed fashion shoot” to another level. Tisci is using a transexual model among the cast for the house’s fall-winter 2010 ad campaign. This transexual model is someone Tisci knows well: it’s his longtime personal assistant and, former fit model for his own line. Lea T.
While some women might find the edgy ads a matter of taste, Tisci explained that including a transgender person exemplifies the masculine-feminine dichotomy that has become one of his design signatures and follows coed casting for his Paris runway last March. The campaign includes dedicated images for Givenchy eyewear and watches, and Tisci said media budgets would increase in certain growth markets for the brand.
Whillas & Gunn: Autumn/Winter 2010
New Australian label Whillas & Gunn combines timeless rugged Australian outerwear with the polished fit of contemporary styling. With all the Heritage brands out now, it’s good to see one is emerging from down under. Just don’t mistake it for anything Crocodile Dundee might wear.
