Buxom Lips for Pout-Plumping Perfection
Now that we’re in the summer mood, full-on lipstick is not exactly the best thing when you are at the beach, sight seeing, shopping or just out in the sun. In times like these, a great lip gloss will do the trick to keep you looking femenine, polished and natural.
An awesome lip gloss I just discovered comes from Buxom Lips; this is a fun and flirty product line from Bare Escentuals. The great thing about this product is that it’s a lip plumper. As you put it on, you immediately feel a cool and tingling sensation on your lips; according to the company: “86% of women experienced an immediate increase in Lip Fullness.” And I’m lucky to be one of those 86%, I love how my lips feel and it stays on for a long time.
Another thing I love about the product is the packaging, it’s so cute it feels like a crime to throw it away. I also like the names of the colors, such as Amber, Bianca, Dolly, Isabella, Trixie; each one with an unique look and personality.
The one I choose for myself was Vanessa, a full-color lip polish, so my lip gloss has an extra kick of color and what I’ve noticed is that it doesn’t feel sticky or like you have honey on your lips. And even if I repeat myself, I have to say I do feel the plump…big time. As well as more feminine and flirty.
As always before purchasing I checked if the company tests on animals and they don’t. Also their product doesn’t contain parabens, sulfates or phtalates. You can find these items at Sephora for $18 each or a you can get a set for $28. You can also purchase the items at Buxom directly.
Enjoy your Glossy, Full Lips!
H20proof
It’s no secret weddings can kick the tear-factor into overdrive. Whether you are a guest or the “blushing bride” herself; tears just have a way of showing up. I say — be prepared: dress your lashes with waterproof mascara then you can cry your eyes out, ha! Here are some shopping hints to select just the right formula for you.
Buy brands that say “ophthalmology tested”, promote quick drying, tar free and take careful notice of the wand.
Some great drugstore mascara options are:
Maybelline Great Lash [waterproof], Loreal Voluminous [waterproof] and Cover Girl Lash Blast [waterproof]
Beauties, this may sound like a “no brainer” but make sure you read the small print, look for the word “Waterproof” – don’t assume your covered. Oh, and one more tidbit…I always, I mean always reach for my SuperGoop wipes when I’m either swiping off stubborn makeup [like waterproof formulas] or cleaning my hands from makeup residue. Just think of the added bonus…you’ll be treating your skin with 30+ SPF, you can’t beat that with a stick…you should so try these!!
Pro Tip:
Not only should you coat your lashes in upward motion, you should also start at the base of your lash and wiggle in Z formation for perfection, it works like a charm;-).
Erin Wasson in Elle Italia
One of my favorite models-turned-designers-who-still-models ever, Erin Wasson was recently shot for Elle Italia in her Texan hometown. The photographs are spectacular.
Ana Locking Autumn/Winter 2010-2011 Maxi Necklaces
This nice people of the Ana Locking Team sent me a link to their Autumn Winter 2010-2011 ephemeral jewelry collection. The pieces are amazing, and in line with the last ephemeral jewelry collection Ana Locking put out.
The most stunning pieces of the collection (in my opinion) are the maxi-necklaces made with paraffin wax in Black, Blue and Pink, and set on brass bases.
I particularly like the way the large Maxi looks on the male model Matvey. The look is totally appropriate for the runway, however I can’t imagine actually seeing, or appreciating an average man on the street wearing such a large necklace.
I was unable to locate more images of this blue necklace, which is too bad because the color is stunning. I think a necklace like this would look ideal with a solid colored outfit…I’m imaging a deep tan or olive outfit would look amazing with it.
Who doesn’t enjoy looking pretty in pink?
Summer Socks
Summer socks! I love this trend…it’s chic, feminine and if worn properly, this look can be extremely modern. We’ve seen this look on the runway at Christian Dior and Burberry, and we’ve also seen it on some of our favorite leading ladies.
Wearing socks with heels or wedges can be a little tricky though. You need the right socks, the right shoes and the overall right “look.” I’ve seen women trying to pull-off this trend, but usually it’s the socks that ruin the look. You definitely need a thin sock (mesh, silk, or cashmere works best), in a neutral color, and be sure the sock hits a couple inches above the ankle. Personally, I think a strappy, chunky heel looks best, especially wedges. And as far as wardrobe goes, keep it simple…wear a basic top, wide leg denim, or a girlie sundress.
Here are a few of my favorite sock and heel looks for summer!
Since wearing the perfect sock is important this summer, check out Tabio, an online Japanese specialty sock store. To put it simply, they have a large range of socks and tights…sheer, sparkly, ribbed thick and thin…you’ll definitely be able to find the best pair of socks to wear with your heels this summer!
Japanese Simplicity- Part 3: Desks
Time to get to work! Now that we can get a rejuvenating night’s sleep and walk around without tripping over stuff, there are really no more excuses to put off that cover letter or menu plan (“But…I have to catch up on old seasons of Design Star!”). Home desks are where we work after a hard day at school or the office, so naturally, it is very important to select a desk design that fits your style and function needs. To those—like me—who feel stifled or bored to tears by more traditional desks, good news! Using the aesthetic principles of Japanese design is a great way to find furniture that is functional, calming yet energizing, freeing, and fresh.
Scroll through this if you’ve already read it:
• Kanso: simplicity and elimination of clutter. Key word: clarity
• Fukinsei: asymmetry or irregularity. Relax—imperfections are what make life beautiful and engaging!
• Shibumi: elegant, understated, minimalistic. Less is more.
• Shizen: organic. Raw creativity with a purpose.
• Yugen: subtle suggestions rather than statements. Think well-placed splashes of color.
• Datsuzoku: freedom from the day-to-day and ordinary. Let a few things in your home take you away from home.
• Seijaku: active calm, tranquility. Still, but never stagnant.
Built-in storage tray, clean lines, and airy design make this desk a winner. Plus–made with sustainably harvested oak!
Angled black legs give the illusion of movement.
In other words, when searching for desks infused with a Japanese flair, look for:
• Natural materials (wood) in a rustic synergy with metals and glass.
• Darker colors, coolness or muted warmth.
• Keywords: contemporary, modern (straight lines, clean angles, solid shapes)
• Minimal or no drawers (drawers = clutter).
• A look of frozen animation or captured energy. Furniture has moods too-if it seems dull to you, don’t get it.
• Tip: avoid sterile, sleek, industrial designs of chrome and glass that are immaculate but lifeless.
I know this breaks the “no drawer” rule, but it is simply perfection with its asymmetric drawer designs. Plus that rustic wood!
From the website: “Handcrafted from reclaimed telephone poles, the incredible character of these unique tables stems from true distressing by time and nature.” Yeah. Yeah. You read right. Reclaimed TELEPHONE POLES. That’s right. Uh huh. I know.
Tips for desk placement to maximize energy flow (or just freedom of movement and widening of spaces):
• Place desks by sunlit windows.
• Avoid corner desks.
• If you can, set your desk away from the edges of the wall and face them toward the room. The effect may surprise you.
And that’s it for this week!
Baroque Bookshelves
Today a friend sent me a link to these great Baroque bookshelves and I thought that I’d share them with you.
Too bad Graham and Green is a UK based company…and because the pieces are quite large, the shipping on these is outrageous!
UrbanOutfitters.com Shoe Haul
Inspired by vlogs, particularly ‘haul videos’, I thought it’s finally time to add one to Style Bust. I visit UrbanOutiftters.com all the time to check out their sale section.
